Security Staff

Bankers BMS client Interfaith Works’ Homeless Services seeks Security Staff (SS) for its Community Vision Overflow Shelter (CVOF) which is a seasonal shelter open between November 1st and March 31st. It is the responsibility of SS to ensure the safety, well-being, and dignity of all occupants while on duty. SSs are assigned to shifts as needed to be based. CVOF SS monitors the facility Monday-Sunday evenings daytime and over night hours on the weekend. This is a temporary/seasonal position. Staff may work different hours based on the program's needs. Presently, the following work schedule is a requirement:

The client is looking to hire a candidate which requires covering 25-30 hours/week position. The schedule below is flexible to accommodate the right candidate. Sunday 5:00 pm-12:00 am; then 12:00 am -9:00-am (Sunday night into Monday morning 9:00 am). Tuesday - 4:00 pm - 12:00 am; Thursday 12:00 am -8:00am (Wednesday night into Thursday morning 8:00am

Responsibilities:

• Supervise shelter clients while on duty, making rounds throughout shift.
• Get all the clients to sign in when entering the shelter.
• When clients enter the shelter, search bags and use metal detector to search for weapons.
• Assist in setting up sleeping areas.
• Assist in keeping all shelter activities running smoothly including daily activity reports and chores.
• Handle psychiatric and medical emergencies in a calm and respectful manner while reinforcing the resident guidelines.
• Keep informed of shelter updates by reading logs and emails.
• Log all activities into daily log while on duty and complete incident reports as needed.
• Update the Bed Count List.
• Welcome volunteers/donors, as needed.
• Answer phone calls and inquiries while on duty.
• Meet with supervisor individually and attend staff meetings as required by supervisor
• Attend trainings in core areas including Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Crisis Intervention & De-escalation, First Aid, CPR.
• Be available to cover open shifts. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of employment or volunteer experience in direct human service.
• Some understanding of mental illness, substance use, and human behavior.
• Ability to work as a team.
• Excellent listening and communication skills. Experience in crisis intervention a plus.

Supervision:

In all matters pertaining to CVOF operations, Security Staff report to the CVOF Program Manager and Assistance Program Manager.
