The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one regular, full-time position in the class of Sheriff's Operations Coordinator at the Yolo County Sheriff's Office. The incumbent in this position will be primarily responsible for fleet management as well as maintaining software systems associated to the capture of digital media, Vehicle cameras and Body Worn Camera systems. This position may require schedule flexibility when emergencies arise.

The ideal candidate will have previous administrative, business, or operational experience in a fleet management position or other related vehicle service experience and the ability to learn new software and associated hardware involved with emergency responder vehicles. Key personal characteristics that will support the success of the incumbent include the ability to effectively multi-task while meeting competing deadlines as well as excellent interpersonal skills.

Definition
Under general direction, the incumbent plans, organizes and coordinates various operational support activities of the Sheriff's Office, such as logistics coordination and fleet management; supports Sheriff's Office sworn staff with emergency situations, special events, and community meetings and events; and represents the Sheriff's Office within these roles.

Distinguishing Characteristics
The Sheriff's Operations Coordinator is a single position class, used only within the Sheriff's Office. The incumbent in this position is primarily responsible for the fleet management functions of the department. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, logistical support coordination, community crime prevention awareness, and other department special projects and studies. This position reports to a sworn law enforcement manager.

Essential Functions

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Initiates, facilitates and oversees the outfitting of fleet vehicles with decals, emergency equipment, computers, cameras, etc.; ensures equipment upgrades and replacements in existing fleet vehicles; diagnoses and troubleshoots problems and arranges repairs with vendors as needed.
  • Monitors and facilitates routine maintenance and repairs of fleet vehicles; coordinates logistics with the County Garage, volunteers, deputies, and other staff; researches pricing, and coordinates the purchase and requisition of supplies and equipment for patrol vehicles; and negotiates repairs and services with vendors.
  • Assists patrol commanders during major emergency incidents acting as support person and volunteer coordinator; coordinates the Mobile Command Unit for deployment and assists in setup and troubleshooting; coordinates and provides necessary supplies, food, drink, and equipment.
  • Provides logistical support for large patrol and multi-agency operations.
  • Gathers and compiles information on operations and activities for reporting purposes.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field; AND

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience, preferably in a law enforcement agency.

Substitution: Additional years of experience performing responsible administrative, business, or operational experience in a law enforcement agency may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

Knowledge of:


  • Basic principles of budgeting and purchasing
  • Basic principles of fleet management and vehicle maintenance
  • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphic design, and other specialized applications related to area of assignment
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Training concepts and methods of learning
Ability to:
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with others
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met
  • Research, compile, and analyze a variety of data and information
  • Work independently, prioritize and organize work, coordinate activities and meet critical deadlines
  • Analyze situations and take appropriate action

Screening for Best Qualified

Verification of Education

For recent graduates who have not received proof of their degree yet, a letter from the registrar's office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.

If the institution does not provide these documents in English, the applicant will need to provide a translation which has been done by a professional agency. Applicants who possess a degree or completed coursework that is not from an accredited college or university, must submit one of the following:

1. A written statement from a U.S. accredited university or college that states that the applicant is qualified for entrance to a program of graduate studies for which a degree in a related field is required.
2. An evaluation of the applicant's degree and coursework equivalency by a private organization that provides foreign credential evaluation services. The evaluation must include a comparison of comparable U.S. courses for content, credit and grade.

Note: Foreign language documents must include a precise word-for-word English translation of all foreign language documents. It is the responsibility of each applicant to prove to the satisfaction of the County that the applicant meets the specific requirements listed on the job announcement for each specific examination.
