About the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR): The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, trails, golf courses and parkways.


The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Sign Sign Painter & Letterer I, location 475 Neponset Ave., Dorchester. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Primary duties include the installation of signs at Department of Conservation and Recreation parks, facilities and roadways in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Control Devices (MUTCD), as well as with all OSHA safety rules and regulations and DCR standards. Position will include constructing various wood sign frames and assisting with sign fabrication.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES

  • Perform the installation of all types of signage utilizing metal and wood posts and various fasteners.
  • Perform related duties such as operating various hand, power and pneumatic tools such as hammer, drill press, table saw, rotary hammer drill, rhino post driver and rock drill.
  • Assist with fabrication of specific signs utilizing current Sign Shop software and hardware
  • Install signs in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Control Devices (MUTCD) and DCR sign and vehicle standards.
  • Requisition of materials and equipment used in preparation, fabrication and installation of signs.
  • Comply with and adhere to safety requirements and regulations for use of all equipment, paints, UV inks and solvents in accordance with OSHA, local government and merchandisers guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others verbally and written.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in sign painting or lettering, graphic arts or graphic design, drawing, drafting or art work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A diploma or certificate from a recognized school above the high school level with a major in art, graphic arts, graphic design, drawing or drafting may be substituted for the required experience.*
  • Education toward such a diploma or certificate will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
