We are partnering with our client to assist with their search for a Site Coordinator for the Youth Mental Health Academy. Our client is an independent, national nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of children and families struggling with mental health and learning disorders. The summer academy is a project-based learning activity with a capstone group presentation to develop foundational knowledge, skills and behaviors in participants to recognize mental health and disorders, learn about mental health careers, and obtain Teen Mental Health First Aid certification. High school-aged participants in the YMHA will be provided a range of inquiry-based activities, immersive mentoring, and networking opportunities
The Site Coordinator will oversee the learning and safety of students, as well as coordinating the summer activities. In this role, the Site Coordinator will support classroom learning experiences, stimulate students’ interests in science, with an emphasis on selected mental health content, which include, but not limited to mental health disorders, mental health triggers, youth mental health issues/topics and mental health research. Most importantly, the Coordinator must be prepared to maintain a building environment that is conducive to learning, create open lines of communication with instructors and collect and analyze student-achievement data.
Reporting to the Learning Manager, this is an eight-week contracted position based in Los Angeles.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all onsite aspects of the YMHA Summer Site, including check-in/out, activities, and equipment
- Ensure expectations are met at the highest level
- Maintain the cleanliness of the YMHA Summer Site facility
- Facilitate, and supervise the check-in and check-out process
- Manage all administrative duties (e.g., student and teacher attendance, permission forms for field trips, assessment, parent contacts, supporting students with lagging skills, emergencies etc.)
- Support learning experiences (i.e., individual, small group, and whole class instruction) throughout the summer academy in a classroom environment that ensures student achievement
- Engage students in problem-solving experiences and inquiry-based practices
- Deliver motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of mental health and scientific subject matter, best practices, and child development
- Support student groups to develop capstone projects and other experiential activities. Guide students in learning from those activities
- Regularly assess, evaluate, and report on student progress and achievement throughout the summer academy
- Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement
- Collaborate with instructors to guide students to include relevant mental health research in capstone projects
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree or has obtained a degree in any social or behavioral science, health profession or mental-health field
- At least two years of experience teaching or serving diverse high school students in a school, community, or nonprofit setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Strong organizational skills
- A passion for collaborating with schools, students, parents, and educators
Special Considerations:
Must be able to participate in professional development June 14th-June 16th, 2023, to internalize curriculum and obtain certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid before the summer academy starts.
The hourly rate for this position is $30.00 per hour.
