We are seeking candidates for this fully remote role who are based in the greater Chicago area. Grindr employees living and working in the greater Chicago area are encouraged, but not required, to join the Engineering Team in the West Loop Chicago satellite office a few times per month.

We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer who is passionate about building, testing, deploying, and working closely with the Product team to deliver new features. You will have the opportunity to solve challenging problems, work with the latest systems, collaborate with a kind and capable team, and contribute meaningfully.

What's the job?

• Build for the future by designing maintainable, reliable, scalable, and well-tested systems to serve a global audience of millions of concurrent users (we're big!)
• Work with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers to refine feature design and functionality
• Optimize key pieces of Grindr's platform using tools like Kotlin, Java, Redis, ElasticSearch, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and AWS services
• Create innovation by guiding data-driven decisions to adopt new technologies, architectures, and workflow
• Elevate your team's technical proficiency; help your team adopt new tools and ways of working
• Troubleshoot unexpected issues across various systems because being the most popular is hard… and fun :)

What we'll love about you

• 6+ years of experience as a Software Engineer working on Backend Systems (Service APIs, Data Processing, Messaging Services, Microservices)
• Experience developing and maintaining systems with Kotlin or Java stacks
• Hands-on experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, GCF, Azure, etc.
• Passionate about writing quality software, with attention to detail and a thorough approach to reviewing code
• You love taking ownership. You think beyond just your team and know how to implement change across your organization.
• Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery
• You love figuring things out and understanding how they work end-to-end
• Experience designing and productionizing large-scale distributed systems
• You consider yourself an expert working with relational databases such as MySQL, SQL Server, Postgres, etc.
• Experience designing enterprise-wide architectures and API systems

We'll really swoon if you have

• Experience with application frameworks such as Ktor or Spring
• Experience developing production systems deployed in Kubernetes
• Experience with Redis, Kafka, or Elasticsearch
• Experience running ad-hoc analysis with SQL and Looker (or similar technologies) would be a plus
