Meijer’s Sr. Copywriter should be brand and language obsessed - building Meijer’s brand expression and voice through a versed strategic and creative mindset. This role leads idea and generation, marketing campaign concepts, message develop, and consistency across all forms of Meijer media.

This role partners across the marketing and creative organization to drive simplicity to complex business and creative challenges. Our Sr. Copywriter is expected to leading levels of writing and contributing to creative concept development across all forms of media including video, digital, ad/print, social/digital. The right candidate will be versed in both brand and promotional creative development in these forms of media.

As a Sr. Copywriter, this role influences team partnership and process, coaches capability and brings consistency to the creative development and writing across squads. The role influences a team of copywriters and proofreaders to produce the best possible creative quality.

This role is partners with Associate Creative Managers, Designers to develop a partnership in the creative process where words and art direction bring mutual impact to our customer communication, and the two work together to change the course of our customer behavior.

Our Sr. Copywriter should be skilled at navigating a complex organization and presenting at all levels of an organization to inspire his/her team and move an audience.

This role is expected to be a visionary for our brand and customer communication, constantly seeking better ways to create connection and action with our customers.

Hybrid Schedule offered: Monday-Wednesday in-office, Thursday-Friday flexible/remote days.*

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develops the voice of the Meijer brand; leads copywriting and proofing function at Meijer.
  • Brings the most experienced level of language and writing to the Meijer Creative team.
  • Champion of customer communication – used customer data, results and best practices across channels to most effectively communicate with Meijer’s customers.
  • Expected to lead copywriting across a wide variety of subject matter expertise – across all Meijer brands (Meijer supercenter, Meijer Grocery, Meijer Express), business and service area, and promotional events.
  • Works in conjunction with Associate Managers, Managers and Director to articulate the vision and voice of the Meijer brand.
  • Leads partnership in the creative process, identifies opportunities and efficiencies to advance the pairing of creative and writing functions to produce the best campaign outcomes.
  • Leads direction of brand voice/tone across all forms of media; proactively uses insights, partnerships and results to determine the most effective brand dialect across channels, and social communities.
  • Expert at solving under pressure; thrives in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
  • Coaches team talent, delivers actionable feedback to advance culture and capability of copywriters and proofreaders.
  • Leads team brainstorms and exercises to coach writing capability.
  • Responsible for writing consistency across squads; leading creative reviews.
  • Successfully collaborates with agency teams to move concepts into execution, delivering best-in-class, timely work.
  • Applies critical thinking to advance concept development across the customer journey.
  • Highly organized with effective project management mindset – operates in an agile creative environment across many projects at one time.
  • Responsible for maintaining brand copy guidelines across all media channels.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring With You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience copywriting and editing, preferably with retail and/or brand experience.
  • Proven experience in influencing teams / outcomes.
  • Passion for words; ability to incite passion in others,
  • Capable creating big ideas and creative strategies linked to business and brand priorities,
  • Creative thinker, planner, communicator, writer,
  • Advanced planning/time management skills; consistently meets deadlines,
  • Communicates effectively at all levels - internal partners, agencies and staff.
  • Rapidly and easily adjusts direction as priorities shift,
  • High creative instinct and ability to effectively communicate purposeful feedback,
  • Versed in cultural, creative and media trends,
