Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options
Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.
Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.
Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation is eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
Equipment/Software: Shelby Accounting Systems, Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Access), Portfolio, Vivid
Qualifications:
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: PREFERRED: Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Business Administration and three or more years of “hands on” experience in a business computer accounting environment.
- Required Skills:
- Accounting: Possess a general understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and FASB Standards pertinent to The Salvation Army
- Computer: The ability to operate within a computer environment is essential as is a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and E-mail.
- Office: The ability to operate 10-key by touch and other standard office equipment in an efficient manner is necessary.
- Organization: The ability to address multiple projects in a time sensitive manner.
- Professional: The ability to present oneself in a professional manner and maintain confidentiality and sensitivity in relation to information and documentation
- Personal: The ability to interact with both co-workers and the management in a positive manner.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Accountant is responsible for the initial set up and maintenance of all financial accounting records related to the operation of multiple corps sites in Northwest & Alaska Divisions. The accounting for these corps sites is done at DHQ by DHQ Finance department staff. The Accountant will also be responsible for the preparation and submission of all financial reports required by The Salvation Army in accord with established policy and procedure and to keep Salvation Army management informed of the current financial condition of the operation. Limited travel to the different sites may be required. The accountant is responsible for financial analysis and presentation of corps financial condition to DFS, Controller & GL team monthly.
DEFINITION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Accountant’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintenance of the General Ledger to include responsibility for month end closings and required journal entries.
- Responsible for reconciling the General Ledger to the Portfolio donor management system on a monthly basis.
- Responsible for the accuracy of all Accounts Payable functions to include the entry of all invoices and payments in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the accuracy of all Accounts Receivable functions to include the counting, deposit and recording of receivables in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of Government billings and follow up with the collection of the Receivables
- Responsible for generating all Month End Financial Reports as well as any interim reports requested by administration by the 10th working day of the following month.
- Responsible for the maintenance and record keeping associated with Custodian and subsidiary accounts.
- Responsible for the accurate Filing of all pertinent accounting documents in a timely manner.
- Responsible for peer review and approval of general journals of one other accountant.
- Responsible to assist management in the Budgeting
- Responsible for the preparation of materials requested in connection with Audits conducted both by Independent outside auditors as well as Salvation Army internal auditors.
- Any other duties assigned by the department managers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
