The Strategic Deals team applies complex accounting rules to unique transactions and is responsible for delivering holistic accounting conclusions for strategic arrangements and deals.
The Strategic Deals Group Manager - Technical Accountingwill be responsible for documenting and providing accounting conclusions for key consultations initiated from business partners such as go to market contracts with strategic partners, complex supply chain arrangements, leases, policy alignment for acquisitions, and other broad topics. This role offers an opportunity to closely partner with business and finance teams across the company and work with a great team of experienced technical accounting professionals. This position requires a collaborative and motivated individual who enjoys working with people to deeply understand the business strategy and related processes. The Strategic Deals team is highly visible to executive management across the business groups and corporate accounting.
Responsibilities
- Consult on technical accounting areas such as leases, acquisitions, fixed assets, capitalization of various costs, and other projects and consultations.
- Bring together experts across teams to evaluate the holistic accounting implications of strategic deals and partnerships
- Document accounting positions and memos for complex accounting topics in simple and clear style and be a liaison with external auditors and valuation experts
- Provide expertise on special projects and other ad hoc requests
- Review consolidated cash flow statement
- Act as a resource for various cross-group initiatives
- Monitor standard setting, work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to assess the impact on Microsoft and make necessary changes to policies and controls as appropriate
- Maintain deep and broad knowledge of GAAP and related accounting guidance
- Identify potential gaps and risks; propose solutions and work across teams to execute
- Prepare and present training to business partners
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field AND 7+ years accounting or finance experience- OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field AND 6+ years accounting or finance experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field AND 10+ years of accounting or finance experience
- OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field AND 9+ years accounting or finance experience.
- Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
- US GAAP knowledge and experience
- Experience in software, technology industry a plus
- Ability to collaborate and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, influencing across multiple complex organization, and creating effecting partnerships; ability to effectively scopes accounting issues, apply the relevant accounting knowledge base and make decisions with conviction
- Superb business partnering and cross-group collaboration skills
- Proven financial and analytical, written and oral communications
Accounting IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 - $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 - $213,200 per year.
