Student Mentor Coordinator Job at NWFS
This position coordinates services and serves as a long-term mentor for youth in the program who have a parent(s) incarcerated in jail or prison. Also coordinates other mentors and program activities.
Salary: $20 – 23.50/hr
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and sustain long-term, prosocial, and supportive one-on-one relationships with 25 youth/mentees, providing a consistent and supportive adult role model.
- Partner with parents/caregivers to provide concrete and social-emotional supports for the family.
- Help the youth build self-esteem and motivation.
- Teach life skills and help develop a talent/skill/area of interest and awareness with each youth.
- Develop positive relationships with families, teachers, and others involved in each youth’s life.
- Help the youth set goals and work towards accomplishing them.
- Communicate weekly with each mentee and their family.
- Attend all mentor/mentee group events, mentor support groups, and program recognition events.
- Maintain active participation in Clackamas County’s Children of Incarcerated Parents committee.
- Help plan and facilitate monthly group outings where youth build community with others in the mentor program.
Education / Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent. An Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience working with youth.
- Have and maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification.
