Phoenix College (PC), the first public junior college in Arizona, welcomed its first students on September 13, 1920. In 1962, PC transitioned to a community college that is part of the Maricopa Community College District. Job Summary


This position performs technically demanding financial aid processing and duties, responds to complex problems and inquiries, and may administer specific financial aid programs. Positions in this classification typically have significant responsibility for counseling students and parents regarding financial aid, coordinating office workflow and the consistent implementation of policies and procedures.

This is a short-term position with a projected end date of 06/30/2024 with possibility of renewal. This position is eligible for a partial remote schedule, 1-2 days a week!

Essential Functions


20% Process financial aid applications including verification, determination of need, disbursement of financial aid, and awarding of funds as well as editing of previous awards;

20% Reviews student files verifying application for accuracy and completeness; requests additional information in compliance with federal and state laws. In addition, process various reports on a regular basis;

20% Assists students with the financial aid process from initial application to award. Counsels’ students and parents with difficult inquires, may evaluate and take action on student appeals, and may speak with student groups regarding financial aid availability and procedures;

20% Assist with frontline service area to ensure accurate and consistent service to students and parents. Assists in analyzing/interpreting regulations for financial aid programs and responds to inquiries requiring detailed knowledge of regulations and policies;

10% May administer financial aid programs such as student employment, loan programs; providing requested information and reviewing/documenting office practices and procedures;

5% May assist in training and direction of students, staff, and temporaries;

5% Performs other duties as assigned commensurate with the level of the position.

Minimum Qualifications


Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in business administration, education or directly related field, and one (1) year of experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

High school diploma or GED, and two (3) years of full-time experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

Desired Qualifications


1. Experience performing complex financial aid transactions requiring a high level of technical knowledge and expertise

2. Experience directing and training others on financial aid processing

3. Three (3) years of experience working in a Financial Aid Office that processes Title IV financial aid

4. Experience providing direct student service (via phone, email, online, etc)

5. College degree or coursework in a related field such as education, business or accounting

Special Working Conditions

  • Must not be in default or owe an overpayment of federal financial aid funds
  • May be required to work evenings and weekends
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving:http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense
