Student Technician Job at St. Xavier University
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Specialist will serve as a first point of contact with the Dean of Students Office and case manager for students who bring forth a concern or experience temporary or long-term barriers to enrollment, persistence, or academic success, and will be committed to fostering an outstanding educational experience for a diverse student population.
From orientation through graduation, this Specialist will help foster inclusiveness and belonging through focused attention on atypical student needs and situations that threaten student success. This Specialist will help to coordinate supportive measures for students who experience challenges to enrollment. These may include situations related to food/housing insecurity, undocumented and DACA student pathways, Title IX, student- or university-related policy violations, or other challenges that impede or threaten a student’s pathway to degree completion.
- HOUSE Liaison and information/resource bank. Serve as institutional liaison for the 2022 Higher Education Housing and Opportunities Act, per Illinois statute, with special focus on students who experience housing insecurity. Design interventions to comply with state requirements and institutional mission for students who experience housing insecurity or homelessness, and other/related challenges. Maintain a current list of internal/external resources/referrals to include among the supportive measures available to students in need. Mange identified internal support measures.
- Coordinate and execute the annual cross-departmental X-Factor Student Leadership Recruitment process, while providing support and mentoring to student leaders.
- Education outreach and student mentoring/advising. Provide education and support to students, faculty, and staff to help recognize and respond to students in distress or crisis, national/local trends in student health and success, and issues related to student academic or personal concerns. Create and mentor team of students who serve as peer-mentors or peer-educators on topics related to personal wellness, campus resources, and compliance/community standards. Collaborate with Counseling Center and other campus partners in outreach activities, as appropriate.
- Policy review, assessment, and evaluation. This Specialist will serve on university committees or work groups to develop policies that support student health, wellness, and retention. The Specialist may assess services, co-curricular programs, and conduct ongoing program evaluation to improve student learning outcomes, retention, persistence, and completion, as needed. Assist with annual review of the Student Handbook, Code of Student Conduct, and other student-facing policies and related information. Work closely with the Center for Inclusive Excellence to ensure equity and access to resolution and other processes.
- Program support. Assist the Dean and Associate Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator with student-conduct, Title IX, or Care Team issues and behavioral-intervention concerns, as assigned. Serve as Title IX investigator. Manage the Student Life Professional on call scheduling and serve in the Dean of Students on-call rotation for emergency response. Provide oversight and mentoring to graduate assistant staff who serve in the Student Life Professional on call rotation. Manage intake and review of housing accommodation requests in collaboration with the Center for Accessibility Resources, Counseling Center and Health Center. Coordinate onboarding and condensed orientation for new first-year students in August and January for late and mid-year registrants in collaboration with Campus Life, Admission and the Center for SUCCESS.
- A master's degree in college student personnel administration, conflict resolution, counseling, social work or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired;
- Minimum of 3-5 years post-graduate professional experience, preferably in a college/university setting, responding to student conduct or crises, with evidence of successful partnerships with students, families, faculty, and staff;
- Demonstrated experience in program development, education and outreach efforts, marketing, and/or training;
- Experience with college or university residence life and housing preferred.
- Knowledge of community based social services and welfare agencies and their functions preferred.
- Experience with behavioral intervention and threat assessment preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting and implementing Title IX and related federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance in a university environment preferred.
