Studio Director of Engineering - AAA Game Development Job at The UpTeam Consultants
The Studio Director of Engineering reports to the Studio Head and is responsible for establishing the studio’s technical vision, leading all aspects of the studio’s technology development, and managing the studio’s engineering department. The Studio Director of Engineering is the studio’s top technology leader, and plays an integral role in the both the studio’s and the overall company’s strategic direction, development, and future growth.
The Studio Director of Engineering will see complexities of production, technology, and competition as challenges and opportunities for the organization and will have the ability, in conjunction with senior people within the company, to build and implement the strategies necessary to meet the needs of all stakeholders. This is a key appointment and requires well-honed technical skills coupled with a track record of leadership and management, ideally gained within an established game development company of repute, skills that will be respected by peers and subordinates without question. Prior experience of people management is an essential prerequisite.
Candidates must be good communicators with the ability to engage and influence at all levels, and must be able to demonstrate a passion for nurturing talent and developing and training the next generation of senior leadership within the company.
Expectations
- 10+ years management experience in the gaming industry with substantial experience in a lead or senior management role.
- Demonstrated expertise with all major industry technology platforms.
- Excellent skills in C++ and C# with a modern programming philosophy.
- Proven ability to create a robust and sustainable technology strategy, significantly increase efficiencies, and continuously deliver positive results to the company.
- The Studio Director of Engineering will be the studio’s spokesperson in all technology- related matters and as such the candidate will be extremely confident in articulating their technology knowledge when dealing with all parties outside the Company.
- Ability to nurture the skills of all members of the Engineering Department and ensure skills and career development of all members of the Engineering Department, through timely and accurate performance reviews.
- Experience in creating processes to identify and develop talent within the Engineering Department and develop a robust succession plan for the department.
- Have a successful track record of establishing and managing multi-location development operations.
- Passion for making and playing games.
