Position Description
To substitute teach dance classes in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and modern, for students in pre-k through Form 12. Classes are held during the day and after-school.
Responsibilities
- To teach dance classes on an as-needed basis for students in Lower, Middle and Upper School Dance Classes. Classes include Ballet, Pointe, Pas de Deux, Modern, Jazz & Musical Theater Dance, Hip Hop, and Flamenco.
- To effectively integrate professional standards of dance education into everyday classroom instruction.
- To inform the Director of Fine Arts and/or the appropriate Division Head immediately of any notable challenges with students, parents, or staff
- To protect the privacy and working environment of the class always
- To exhibit a professional manner
- To be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of your students always
- To maintain, along with dance colleagues, a tidy work environment in studios, dressing rooms, dance lobby and office
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Dance, or related field preferred
- Dance training and experience is required, as is the ability to pass a background check and drug screening

Len Miller joined Saint Mary’s Hall as the 25th Head of School in July of 2020. Len comes to San Antonio after a 25-year career in independent schools. He served previously at some of our nation’s top schools, including The Hill School, The Lawrenceville School, and The Shipley School. He has been at the forefront of developing innovative academic programs and recruiting and retaining dynamic teachers. Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work in a classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Gross and fine motor skills are needed for instruction, including the ability to demonstrate dance techniques
- The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish vocal sounds, tones, and pitches
- The ability to express, exchange or demonstrate spoken instructions to students, faculty, and staff accurately
- Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
