The YMCA of the North Shore is looking to hire a Summer Literacy Assistant during the summer in Greater Beverly. The Summer Literacy Assistant supports in-classroom and camp activities for children and youth providing a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement in literacy and social skills.

This position supports curriculum and program activities assisting in supervising children, classroom, and camp activities. A successful incumbent supports classroom management and addresses behavioral needs as necessary providing consistency in supervision and communication throughout the program day, applies child growth and development principles in working with participants through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth. This role is aimed at ensuring that children do not fall behind their peers during the summer break and are well positioned to continue to advance their learning.

The Summer Literacy Program will run Monday, July 8th - Friday, August 9th (required
trainings will be prior to program beginning).

  • . At least 18 years of age having graduated from high school or achieved equivalent education.
  • A minimum of 3 months previous childcare supervisory experience, preferably in a classroom or camp setting.
  • Ability organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds, preferred.
