The Support Services Case Manager assists families with self-sufficiency goals through case management of Child Care Assistance and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by this position. Other duties as assigned.
  • Work with a team of case managers and coordinators to support low-income families in reaching the goal of self-sufficiency by providing one-on-one case management and monthly financial assistance. Encourage and support participant efforts to gain independence through employment assistance, childcare assistance, education assistance, and personal, family, and cultural growth and wellness.
  • Work with participants to identify and outline what self-sufficiency looks like to them and what their barriers are. Assist applicants in gathering and submitting required documentation to determine eligibility and assistance payment amounts. Upon eligibility determination, utilize identified goals to assist participant in the development of a step-by-step plan for accomplishing them.
  • Collaborate with KANA programs, community partners, local child care providers, and village based leadership to provide resource and referral options. Assist participants in the application of available resources. Support participants in necessary appeal processes and external agency meetings to ensure participant’s rights and needs are addressed.
  • Collaborate with licensed and KANA’s approved/relative child care providers to identify areas of educational need to ensure State and Federal Health & Safety Regulations are maintained. Assist KANA’s approved/relative child care providers by providing necessary safety training and health and safety items.
  • Work with program staff to maintain participant case files, on-going communication with participants, and program activity information input in database system. Utilize internal and external resources to requirements, identify priorities, and facilitate communications between programs and participants.
  • Understand and follow program grant plans, policies and procedures. Assist in the creation and updating of program plans, policies, and procedures as necessary. Review and maintain an understanding of federal and state grants connected to the Child Care Assistance and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programs. Review Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) requirements including, but not limited to, reimbursement fee scales, income requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • Attend relevant and mandatory trainings and meetings, keep abreast of grant policies, procedures and law and regulation changes, and work to improve current Employment, Training, and Support Services programs.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


High school diploma or equivalent and two years related experience working with youth ages 14 to 24, youth programs, employment and training programs, or other social services involving clerical/administration, program coordination, and working within set budgets; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree preferred.


Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Intermediate knowledge of Database, Internet, Spreadsheet and Word Processing software. May require occasional travel to rural communities in a small plane, or off island / out of state travel for training.
