Systems Engineer II- Information Technology Infrastructure Job at El Rio Community Health Center
The IT Systems Engineer II installs, configures, hardens, secures, tests, debugs, and documents servers, storage, and related environments associated with server/storage operating systems. Performs routine and emergency maintenance for operating systems, clinical and business software applications. Ensures systems conform to security and configuration standards. Ensures servers are patched after patches are validated and tested. Modifies and upgrades systems software and program products to current release levels. Works on intermediate problems and works with more senior systems engineers to resolve critical or complex issues. Works in conjunction with various IT staff (technicians, engineers, architects, analysts) in managing server/storage operating systems and application maintenance. Maintains documentation for servers and participates in change control process. Performs moderate to complex troubleshooting, resolves moderate to complex issues. May assist IT Systems Engineer I and others in IT department in resolving moderately complex issues that cross IT teams.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manages all aspects of server operating systems.
- Effectively uses, manages, and configures virtualization tools and systems.
- Understands concepts and effectively manages server system hardening methods.
- Applies cybersecurity fundamentals, specifically as they apply to servers, server operating systems, storage, and other related infrastructure.
- Monitors and addresses availability of technical resources (servers, storage, interfaces, etc.) as assigned.
- Manages, configures, monitors, tests, and validates server backups, backup validation and restore procedures.
- Implements business continuity and disaster recovery concepts related to servers, storage, and related infrastructure.
- Participates in incident response activities (simulated or real), following BC/DR plans, following instructions as part of a coordinated incident response team.
- Plans, implements, tests, and monitors system automation and automation tools including but not limited to Microsoft SCCM.
- Develops and implements test plans.
- Develops backout strategies for critical changes.
- Implements, maintains, and manages a variety of system and infrastructure management tools.
- Evaluates or participates in the evaluation of proposed infrastructure, server, storage, or other technical solutions.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of servers and related systems.
- Understands HIPAA and the healthcare IT environment.
- Learns and becomes proficient in new systems, tools, programming, or scripting languages through participating in coaching, mentoring, formal or informal training, as required.
- Communicates verbally and in writing in a clear, concise, professional manner.
- Can communicate highly technical topics to non-technical individuals.
- Coaches and mentors’ others on technical or operational topics; willingly shares knowledge and expertise.
- Documents technical knowledge in IT knowledge base to enable continuous learning and improvement for the IT department.
- Performs all duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
- Evaluates problems, situations, or issues presented to the employee for priority needs, resolving the problem effectively and in a timely manner using critical thinking and problem-solving skills appropriate to the position and authority of an IT Systems Engineer II.
- Communicates effectively through written, verbal, and interpersonal skills as applied when interacting with patients or visitors, employees, and internal/external clients or representatives, successfully conveying and exchanging information in a positive manner.
- Participates in a learning environment by being willing to train and learn from other employees, gaining new skills and knowledge to enhance and improve the quality of service provided to employees, as well as all internal/external clients or representatives.
- Demonstrates and improves understanding and, knowledge of El Rio Health systems and programs.
- Employees must maintain their skill proficiency with El Rio Health operating systems and programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to system and program improvements or upgrades.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years of related Systems Engineer experience or Four (4) years of related System Engineer support work in conjunction with a related technical certification (Microsoft, Linux, etc.).
- Four (4) years’ experience working with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
- Four (4) years’ experience working with Windows operating system.
- Two (2) years’ experience resolving basic network user issues.
If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
- Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver’s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities:
- Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Four (4) years’ experience with Microsoft Applications (Visio, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
- Understanding of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (I.T.I.L.) practices.
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA Net+
- CompTIA Sec+
- Microsoft, Linux, Unix, Azure, or other operating system/platform certification
- Advanced technical certifications related to servers, operating systems, or platforms
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write in both
