Technology Innovation Project Manager Job at Ulteig Engineers
The Opportunity
Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for a Technology Innovation Project Manager position, an opportunity to join our Product and Innovation Team. The Associate will work closely with the Technology Innovation Manager to identify, evaluate and advance the company’s efforts to rapidly innovate, tech-enabled solutions that will improve Ulteig’s internal operations and/or offer valuable new services to its clients. In many cases, this will involve close partnerships with internal teams and 3rd-party technology firms spanning a range of capabilities. The Associate will report to the Technology Innovation Manager, supporting the growth of the department over the next several years.
What You'll Do
This position will require a systematic approach to innovation, with the ability to independently execute departmental strategy and track progress against stated goals for Ulteig and the Product and Innovation Team(P&I). The role will focus on executing the operational vision for the P&I Team by helping to identify and research emerging technology trends related to Ulteig’s key Lifeline Sectors (Power, Renewables, Transportation and Water), understand internal needs and client requests, identify key technology partners, and coordinate field-testing/prototyping procedures for technology solutions. An understanding, interest, and comfort in discussing new technologies and their applications to Ulteig’s Lifeline Sectors and engineering/technical services firm operations is critical. More specific duties include:
Emerging Technology Trends & Key Partners 20%
- Help the P&I Team track and understand key emerging technology trends and their potential applications within Ulteig and for Ulteig clients in each Lifeline Sector. This may require extensive independent research and report composition.
- Collaborate with the Technology Innovation Manager to perform external scouting, outreach, and engagement strategies to identify and build relationships with key technology firms.
- Track technology partner outreach campaigns using company CRM.
- Performing due diligence, scope and coordinate pilot programs, and report on key performance indicators to help the P&I Team properly vet the potential and long-term value of potential technology solutions/partners.
- Ensure that technology partners are best-in-class by researching alternatives and comparing each technology against a set of peers.
- Represent the P&I Team externally at conferences and to internal stakeholders across Ulteig’s engineering and technical services areas.
- Draft internal technology briefs and summaries and produce promotional content and reports such as blog posts, wiki pages, and short videos.
Technology Innovation Testing/Prototyping 60%
- Drive and Track Product Development by coordinating with internal stakeholders to field-test technology products. Support and troubleshoot internal and external technology deployments, documenting results and providing strategic guidance. Act as de facto project manager for technology testing engagements led by P&I Team.
- Collaborate and engage with internal engineering and business development teams to identify and understand opportunities for innovation while defining specific needs. Document opportunities and recommend reasonable new solutions for consideration.
- Support the continued growth of the P&I Team through participation in team and department planning meetings and strategy development.
Innovation Program Support 20%
- Support management and oversight of company’s internal innovation program and ideation software platform through the development of monthly trainings, research reports, and communications on how to apply innovation theory appropriately within the context of Ulteig.
- Compile and report on key performance indicators related to the internal innovation program and ideation software platform.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to identify and develop opportunities for innovation.
- Support future innovation program design and implementation strategy.
- Manage departmental blog posts and intranet site.
What We Expect from You
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, technology, product development or other entrepreneurial-related discipline or equivalent experience.
- 6-10+ years of relevant professional experience with a focus on engineering, Project Management or innovation.
- PMP Certificate is a plus.
- Demonstrate the ability to be organized and work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities.
- Ability to travel up to 20% for client meetings and technology scouting.
- Demonstrate excellent leadership, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Exhibit a track record of successfully utilizing new technologies and a professional passion for innovation.
- Focused and passionate around external engagement and maximizing relationships within the industry.
- Possess an ability to proactively manage multiple projects with clear expectations. Highly responsive internally and externally.
- Strong business acumen and industry knowledge.
- Excellent presentation and verbal/written communication skills.
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project).
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the US.

Compensation Range is Generally +/- 15% of Position Mid-Point of $116,000*
