Job Title: Program Therapist

General Description:

This position is located within the Chickasaw Nation Department of Family Services Residential Services Division. The therapist is responsible for the resident's treatment plan from admission to discharge and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the guidelines of the program policies and procedures. The therapist is responsible for accurately document all clinical proceedings through appropriate recordkeeping in the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Supervision Received: This position is under the direct supervision of the facility Senior Manager.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • Establish, maintain, and coordinate overall treatment aspects of the individuals in the program.
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date records and other appropriate documentation of care in an electronic system.
  • Provide assessment & evaluation for individuals seeking treatment to include, but not limited to, intake information, i.e. physical, social and psychological history, diagnosis, and individual treatment plans.
  • Provides psycho-educational services to individuals and families in a group setting with an emphasis on violence prevention, sexual assault, and stalking.
  • Assist as necessary with the orientation of individuals and their families to the treatment program.
  • Shares clinical and program information, preparing statistical reports, narrative reports, and other information as required.
  • Provide crisis intervention and informational services as required.
  • Seek and use collateral/family support in treatment. Provide needed referral services to families.
  • Assists in the orientation, training, education, and supervision of new employees, trainees, and graduate and undergraduate students as requested.
  • Maintains and develops skills required by the position, through reading professional literature, association with professional organizations, and participation in workshops, and seminars related to professional responsibilities.
  • Provides input in the development of policies and procedures related to clinical program services.
  • Serves on appropriate program or community boards and committees as assigned.
  • Provides clinical and program consultation, collaboration, information, and education services to patients of CNMC, health professionals, and others, and a wide range of public and private agencies and organizations, including tribal and non-tribal programs.
  • Participates in the after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency and crisis stabilization services as assigned.
  • Quality customer service is required and includes but is not limited to: treating all individuals/visitors with respect and dignity; maintaining a cooperative attitude with other providers to facilitate quality patient care; must maintain an effective and cooperative working relationship with employees and supervisory staff of the facility, with tribal officials and other visitors to the facility.
  • Implements empirically validated measurements into therapeutic practice to assess progress in therapy and to measure overall therapeutic effectiveness.
  • Perform all other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required - Must have the ability to effect behavioral change through a wide range of treatment modalities from a family systems theoretical perspective, the ability to emphatically provide teaching, training, and counseling with patience and understanding of the problems associated with violence prevention, sexual assault and stalking and it impacts upon families. Required - Must have a helping attitude and understanding of the problems of substance abusers within a family-oriented perspective. Required - Must have extensive knowledge of the disease of addiction, co-occurring disorders, and its treatment alongside family-oriented framework. Required - Must be sensitive to the First American culture. Required - Must be able to work with confidential material and exhibit the ability to practice appropriate boundaries including no social media contacts with present or former residents. Required - Interacts with co-workers and individuals in a trauma-informed manner. Required - Knowledge of The Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act and HIPPA law.

Education:

Masters Required - Master's degree in psychology, counseling or related field required.

Education Note:

Training And Experience:

Preferred Experience (6 months - 3 years) - Specific educational emphasis on violence prevention, sexual assault, stalking and family systems treatment preferred. Preferred Experience (6 months - 3 years) - Minimum two years experience as a therapist in a mental health clinical setting preferred. Preferred Training (6 months - 3 years) - Minimum two years experience or specific training working with adults and families and with groups preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

Required - Must possess a current license without restriction or be eligible for licensure from the State of Oklahoma Board of Behavioral Health Licensure as a Licenses Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor with Mental Health Designation (LABC/MH), or the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers as a Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW). For license eligibility, must be able to achieve licensure within two years of hire. Required - Must be able to pass a thorough background check. Required - Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and good driving record. Required - If applicable, must have had one year of sobriety and no charges or arrests related to substance use within two years.

Required - Must possess the ability to cope with constant changes in a stressful environment.

Work Environment:

The work may include a certain amount of exposure to unmanaged emotions from individuals, family members, and visitors.
