Position Criteria:
- Valid Iowa teaching license, required
- Teacher-elementary classroom endorsement (K-6), required
- Reading endorsement, preferred
Performance Criteria:
- Demonstrates an understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and an ability to apply that understanding in order to successfully collaborate with colleagues.
- Solid understanding and proven application of the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students and implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
- A solid understanding of and experience in using multiple teaching methods: collaborating, co-teaching, whole group/small group/individualized instruction.
- Commitment to differentiated instruction.
- Desire for growth is evident through personal and professional goals and willingness to collaborate with instructional coach and building/district expects.
- Record of recent staff development/on-going education and knowledge of current research.
- Implementation of and experience with Jan Richardson's Next Steps Forward in Guided Reading Framework.
- Understanding of formative assessment and evidence of using data to adapt to individual needs of students of all ability levels.
- Knowledge of various types of developmentally appropriate assessments of children.
- Understanding and experience with the workshop and Gradual Release models and committment to differentiated instruction.
- Flexible, highly motivated, positive, and enthusiastic about working with children.
- Evidence of effective routines and procedures that lead to a positive classroom environment that promotes student achievement.
- Proven ability to read and interpret a variety of types of data and expertise in data-driven decision-making to guide instruction.
- Articulate in oral and written communications.
- Knowledge of and experience with using current technology to enhance learning.
- Experience and proven ability in working with and growing diverse learners: Special Education, ELP, ESOL, etc.
- Full support and implementation of Positive Behavior Supports.
- Proven proactive and positive communication with parents and families.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to implement the Problem Solving Process and use data to support supplemental and/or intensive interventions.
- Knowledge of the 21st Century Skills and Universal Constructs and experience with ubiquitous integration of these competencies and Habits of Mind which may or may not be linked to The Leader in Me.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to continual improvement as a means for enhancing student achievement.
- Understanding of and evidence for the implementation of developmentally appropriate practices for young learners.
- Actively supports and effectively communicates the Waukee Community School District and Walnut Hills Elementary mission, vision, and values.
