Trauma Registrar, Full-Time Days Job at Piedmont Healthcare
JOB PURPOSE:
Performs all functions of case finding, abstraction, database maintenance, report production, and patient follow-up for the trauma registry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identifies patients that meet qualifications to be entered into the trauma registry.
Abstracts all pertinent patient information required by the trauma registry including but not limited to, demographics, pre-hospital, ED, inpatient, diagnoses, co-morbidities, complications and procedures.
Enters all required patient data into the trauma registry.
Determines each patient's AIS, ISS and ICD-9 codes based on anatomic and physiologic data in the medical record.
Creates basic reports, charts and graphs not requiring advanced Registry knowledge. Participates in State trauma activities, meetings and conferences.
Ensures compliance with state reporting requirements and fulfils criteria for accreditation as set forth by the American College of Surgeons as designated through the State Office of Trauma/EMS.

Must demonstrate a high degree of clerical accuracy with attention to detail
Must possess ability to organize data.
Must possess good problem solving skills.
Must have excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology is required.
Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and statistical programs required.

Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Minimum of Associate Degree in health-related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Entry level - no experience required.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
N/A.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
RN licensure preferred.
Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) preferred.
One year experience in medical coding in a hospital setting is preferred.
Work experience of at least two years with strong emphasis on data integrity and analysis is preferred.
