U-Material Handler Job at Ashland Foundry & Machine Works LLC
Perform various material handling duties throughout the plant, indoors and out, and painting of parts for shipment. Responsible for proper picking, packaging and documentation of castings, patterns, parts, and customer shipments. Operate all equipment necessary to load and unload any materials. Deliver receivables to internal destinations. Maintain inventory accuracy by way of cycle count methods and proper use of PC. Operate high lift or forklift to select, move, stage and/or store materials for internal and external customers. Operate paint systems and gauges to properly clean and apply coating to parts or assigned materials. Monitor equipment. Assist in performing housekeeping duties and other duties as assigned.
COMPLEXITY AND JUDGMENT
Routine and repetitive work requiring some care in handling material and caution in driving the trucks. Accuracy is necessary to maintain inventory records including such items as part locations, counts, shipments, and proper flow of parts through the manufacturing process. Some judgment required in maintaining paint surface desired. Preparation work is critical in producing quality finishes. Proper maintenance of paint filtration system necessary to control emissions.
Complex issues are referred to a supervisor.
EDUCATION
Able to read and write, understand, and follow instructions. Requires knowledge of paperwork associated with shipping and movement of parts and patterns. Will need some basic PC and scanning knowledge. Must be mentally alert to meet emergencies in truck driving. Some knowledge of paint, paint mixing and thinning. Equivalent to partial high school or comparable shop.
EXPERIENCE
Ability to perform the duties of Pattern Maker B, C, and D. Time to move into positions depends on Pattern Maker’s ability and learning curve. Timeframe may be sooner; however, can take two (2) to four (4) years.
INITIATIVE
Plan details of procedure. Work on own initiative towards objectives, receiving only general direction and guidance. Make decisions within standards widely accepted in the trade.
Unusual problems are referred to supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Mostly light lifting with some occasional moderate to heavy lifting. Moderately heavy job moving patterns and related equipment. Works in standing position; at times requires frequent lifting and handling of medium to large castings. Chain hoists available for lifting heavy work. Some heavy lifting, push/pulling on occasion. Ability to use hand and power tools.
Employees working in this position are required to frequently walk or hear. The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Some conditions are noisy with exposure to wood shavings, dust, heat, and some fumes. Some exposure to outside weather conditions.
Working in the foundry environment subject to temperatures of heat and cold depending on the season. Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, and eye protection.
