The University of Maryland School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a creative News Producer and Videographer to join a growing team of communications professionals who are producing compelling content about medical and scientific breakthroughs, patient stories and leading figures in health care.

The Staff Videographer/Producer will support the video team in every phase of the video production process. The Staff Videographer/Producer will produce videos that support the research and clinical care provided by scientists and physicians, and highlight the educational and community service missions of the school.

As the Staff Videographer/Producer you will develop and edit complete videos for use on a variety of online platforms or that will be shown at public events. In addition to on-location videography, the Staff Videographer/Producer will schedule video shoots in the studio and on location, conduct background research and interviews when necessary, and handle remote equipment set-up and lighting.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include serving as videographer when needed for events, interviews, shooting b-roll footage, and script writing. An important aspect of the position is the ability to create motion graphics for various videos, programs and social media. The position may also be required to produce live stream events. Additional job duties include managing social media accounts, publishing digital content, and using a media archive.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Integrates video and audio skills to develop and/or assist with development of presentations that represent the University’s innovations, culture, and community engagement.
  • Transports, sets up, and operates various production equipment including cameras, audio and video recorders, lighting equipment, props, and microphones for location and studio production.
  • Operates and maintains proper levels and calibration of a wide range of cameras, audio and video recorders, and other production equipment.
  • Coordinates collection of b-roll footage of campus as well as interviews.
  • Edits footage and stays up-to-date with new technological advances.
  • Provides administrative support during the production process, which may include finding interview subjects, creating graphics, and coordinating presentation events with clients and other constituents.
  • Sets up lighting, whether in a studio or on location.
  • Helps to support creative process.
  • Supports the needs of a project based on blend of usable assets such as video to motion graphics, etc.
  • Works with vector graphics and layers for use in motion graphics and best export/encoding practices for delivery across a wide range of channels including YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Stream, etc.
  • Utilizes cutting-edge design in video (scripting, execution, production, post-production, etc.) and social media platforms (all social media channels, content development, graphics, etc.) mediums.
  • Supports the concept of image and video products that display creative strategy, design, layout, color, composition, brand, typography, and communication skills.
  • Utilizes sound editing tools to color correct and enhance images and videos.
  • Writes drafts of effective narrative and compelling scripts.
  • May build creative briefs, video outlines, scripts, and other necessary pre-production documents, working with brand and brand guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Video Production, Graphic Arts, Motion Graphics, Broadcast Journalism or Communications.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in the field with experience in scripting, shooting, editing, motion graphics and final delivery. Experience in healthcare or higher education is valued, but not required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilites:

Skill in video production capabilities, producing and writing. Able to shoot and edit using a variety of digital cameras and tools. Ability to edit with Adobe Premiere Pro, and developing creative motion graphics, using programs such as Adobe After Effects. Knowledge of lighting and audio techniques. Adept at editing and posting content for social media, and have the ability to stream video content live on various online platforms. Able to work independently, work well on a team, solve media-related problems, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and have meticulous attention to detail.

Hiring Range: $60 - $65k (Commensurate with education and experience)
