The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School is looking for a technical director/set designer for its high school and middle school theatrical productions. The technical director is a part-time position that includes a $2,500 stipend.
The technical director will:

• Design and construct the set for the high school and middle school musicals. The set for the high school musical may be repurposed for the middle school musical.
• Collaborate with the artistic director and lighting director in the design process
• Attend all tech rehearsals and the invited dress rehearsal as needed
• Troubleshoot problems with the set, especially during tech week and the run of the show
• Load in necessary materials, and strike and store the elements of the set following the run of the show
• Advise student stage crew on matters related to set, stage management, safety, and backstage routines
• Work with students students in the design and/or construction of the set when possible, in an age appropriate manner
• Educate students on theater safety and implement routines for student stage crew regarding the safe use and storage of equipment
• Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ)

Work hours are largely flexible; they may take place during the school day or in the evening.

The ideal candidate will have experience with set construction and hold a BA. Physical requirements include climbing ladders, bending, lifting, stooping, building sets, and operating construction tools. The school requires any ladder work or other potentially hazardous work to be done with a second adult present. The candidate should hold a drivers license.
The school would consider dividing the position into two positions if necessary, e.g. one person for the high school production and one for the middle school production.
