POSITION TITLE: Verification Auditor

COMPENSATION: $23.40 - $27.33/HOUR

The Cooperative Agricultural Support Services (CASS) is a Joint Powers Authority that provides efficient and cost-effective support for activities carried out by the California Department of Food and Agriculture and county agricultural commissioners. Under the direction of federal, state, or county staff, CASS employees grade agricultural products for growers, shippers, packers, and processors throughout California. CASS also provides temporary staff to meet the needs of state and county programs engaged in pest detection, trapping, and eradication.

The incumbent in this position must have a high degree of ethical integrity, open-minded, diplomatic, observant, perceptive, flexible, tenacious, decisive, self-reliant, open to improvement, culturally sensitive, and collaborative. The incumbent must also possess strong organization and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with industry, work well under pressure, and work cooperatively with other staff members in completing designated work while meeting required deadlines. Must possess normal color vision and acuity.

Education: 4-Year Degree in Food Safety, Biology, Agriculture, or Chemistry Preferred

Experience: 1- 2 years' experience in an agriculture-related field

CA Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

Will work toward attaining knowledge and complete training in 1) IO19011; 2) PrimusGFS; 3) Global Gap; 4) Good Agricultural Practices (GAP); 5) Good Handling Practices (GHP); 6) Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). The incumbent will be required to demonstrate the ability to manage and coordinate audits by leading at least two (2) complete audits and earning two (2) acceptable evaluations within a one (1)-year period per service type.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Perform Food Safety Verification Audits

• Audit grower and handler records to ensure compliance with an approved plan.
• Write reports following audits.
• Complete the audit checklist and note pertinent observations.
• Communicates with the handler or grower representatives throughout the audit process.
• Prepare field notes, inspector daily reports, and other related paperwork as required.
• Ensure accurate documents are forwarded in a timely manner for processing.

2. Grade Agricultural Commodities

• Will use federal, state, or industry standards.
• Maintaining records of sampling and inspection or testing results; and Issuing certificates based upon the results of commodity grading.

3. Ongoing Training

• Stay abreast of Food Safety changes, trends, and regulations.
• Pursue additional education through coursework or relevant training courses.
• Participate in job-related training to enhance skills.

The incumbent in this position will be required, with or without reasonable accommodation, to stand and walk constantly, lift to 20 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis; use repetitive arm and wrist motions; bend, stoop, twist, reach; and maintain visual acuity along with possessing normal color vision.
