Description:
  • Work with the Center Veterinarian and barn staff in health testing of bulls.
  • Help coordinate processing and sending of bull testing samples to diagnostic laboratories
  • Assist the Center Veterinarian in coordinating and processing sire movements, incoming sires, testing schedules and preparing submission forms for weekly and semiannual health testing sent to the diagnostic lab.
  • Coordinate with and assist veterinary and export document staff at the Select Sires’ Ohio production facility on a regular basis
  • Maintain and update permanent bull health records for completion of health certificates and in compliance with the requirements of the State of Wisconsin, NAAB-Certified Semen Services and USDA.
  • Assist with weekly health paper and export document preparation.
  • Accurately enter sire health and location information into the computer system. Enter new bull information and keep it up to date. Filing and storing this information for easy retrieval.
  • Coordinate activities with the Inventory Production Coordinator in maintaining accurate testing and health records.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested by the Center Veterinarian or Chief Veterinarian.


The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday at the Westby, WI production headquarters. This is a 30 hour a week position with the opportunity to increase to 40 hours if interested in supplementing Veterinary Department duties with either lab or barn responsibilities. Work schedules and duties are subject to change to meet departmental needs. Occasional overtime may be required.

Requirements:

Qualifications/Competencies:

Ability to work with agricultural animals

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (primarily Word and Excel)
  • Pleasant and positive attitude; ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to organize and manage multiple priorities

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or a related field, Certified Veterinary Technician/Associates degree in Agriculture beneficial, but not required if the applicant has substantial relevant experience
  • Must have background in assisting with clinical veterinary medicine and/or experience working with agricultural animals
  • Three to five years of experience with computers, office operations and some supervisory/organizational skills.
