Job Description:
The Vice President of Revenue Cycle is accountable for the overall performance of the revenue cycle operations for Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS). This individual aligns revenue cycle policies with organizational objectives and ensures full integration of revenue cycle strategies and activities across MCHS. The Vice President plans, develops, and leads functions that contribute to the capture, management, and collection of patient service revenues from payers for services. The Vice President works closely with the revenue cycle team and MCHS leadership to optimize revenue cycle operations through revenue cycle analytics and initiatives.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, including: healthcare administration, business administration, accounting, finance, or related field.
Preferred/Optional: Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, accounting, finance, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Ten years progressive management experience in healthcare revenue cycle administration.
Preferred/Optional: Experience leading revenue cycle functions for both hospitals and physician group practices. Experience with complex, high volume healthcare revenue processing systems. Experience with reporting, analytics, and process improvement.

Preferred/Optional: Fellow (FHFMCA) awarded by Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and direct the implementation of revenue cycle strategies to ensure appropriate collection of all service revenue that is due MCHS.
- Monitor and analyze financial operations and key performance indicators such as accounts receivable, cash collections, denials, and controllable loss to ensure optimal performance.
- Develop long-term and short-term strategic plans related to MCHS’s billing systems (e.g., Cerner) and develop an integrated revenue cycle system that supports customer-focused, effective, and efficient revenue cycle operations.
- Partner closely with Managed Care leadership to ensure alignment on payor strategy and financial/operational impacts. Interact with Security Health Plan of Wisconsin leadership to resolve any operational issues including denials.
- Develop and achieve departmental budgets for all areas of responsibility including development of short- and long-term goals, process improvement initiatives and key performance indicators. Provide estimates of future human resource and equipment needs necessary to achieve established goals.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and managed care requirements.
- Monitor external environment as it relates to revenue cycle operations to anticipate and adapt to significant changes in the healthcare environment, including best practices and emerging trends.
- Direct and supervise individuals leading revenue cycle functions across both acute and physician services.
- Develops Revenue Cycle leadership bench strength and creates appropriate succession plans to ensure that seamless transitions within revenue cycle management are in place.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with operational, clinical, financial, and technology leaders.
- Recruit, develop, motivate, manage, and retain a high-performing revenue cycle infrastructure.
