The VW Assistant performs specialized clerical-administrative work assisting in the provision of services of the Victim Witness Assistance Program in the District Attorney's Office.
Work involves providing support and guidance to victims and witnesses by providing information and support throughout the Crime Victim Compensation process and by making appropriate referrals to other victim service agencies. Reports to the Crime Victim Compensation Administrator.
Reviews and approves a variety of compensation claims, pursuant to board policy and state statute, and using some independence of judgment, and maintains a caseload; reviews and analyzes all bills submitted on Crime Victim Compensation claims, determining amounts to be paid using specific guidelines set by board policy and state statute; generates and posts pay orders as appropriate.
Ensures that all elements are in place for presentation of cases to the Crime Victim Compensation Board.
Informs District Attorney's Office of special needs or problems of victims and witnesses; Makes recommendations or referrals as deemed appropriate.
Responds to a wide variety of contacts with crime victims, witnesses, Deputy District Attorneys, victim service providers and law enforcement officials to provide factual, case-related information.
Provides information and support to victims, witnesses and families by providing technical specialized information about the Crime Victim Compensation process. Also provides such information to victim service providers, victim/witness staff, law enforcement officers and prosecutors.
Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various word processing and/or specialized file maintenance programs to enter, store and/or retrieve information as requested or otherwise necessary; prepares and updates computer files, entering data from law enforcement and court records, and preparing records of contact; prepares correspondence to advise clients of status of court records and provides appropriate remedies and/or referrals.
Prepares and takes minutes of Crime Victim Compensation Board meetings.
Assists with training, supervision and coordination of interns.
Provides public information regarding the Crime Victim Compensation Program and assistance.
Assists other Victim/Witness Assistants, Victim/Witness Specialists and Unit Director, providing backup support as needed.
Acts in the capacity of program administrator in the absence of the administrator.
The successful candidate will be detail oriented, flexible, and able to work well in a team.
Associate's Degree:
Work Experience: Minimum one year
Full time-$21.64-$33.66
