We encapsulate glass with an injection molding process and assemble windows for the automotive original equipment manufacturer customer. The Materials Team Leader is responsible for the 3 shift shipping and receiving operations, internal logistics, and storage and facility requirements to ensure customer satisfaction. Job Title: Materials Team Leader Reports To: Materials Group Leader

Location: Niles, MI Department: Production

Employees Supervised: Direct Reports: Materials Process Tech, Materials First Op(s) and Clerks. Indirectly – Materials Associates

Purpose:

Provide leadership and direct all activities related to Warehouse Operations on all shifts including – but not limited to – shipping, receiving, internal logistics, and storage/facility requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Actively plans, directs and supervises the activities of Shipping and Receiving team members across shifts.
  • Responsible for following the Environmental, Quality, and Safety policies, DOT regulations and EHS improvement plans.
  • Responsible for the efficient utilization of both staffing and warehouse facilities/equipment while maintaining a safe work environment. This includes fork truck fleet management
  • Develops warehouse vision/strategy, including investments and implementations, to strengthen customer satisfaction, improve material flow and improve cost position. Provides all cost-related items to support annual budget process and required forecasts.
  • Fosters a continuous improvement culture, leading improvement actions regarding 5S, Kaizen, and other cost reduction and process improvement initiatives. Utilized problem-solving methodologies to prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Provide outstanding customer service through effective communications and use of Customer portals, packaging RFID/Receipt systems, Transporation Routings, and other customer systems & requirements.
  • Provide necessary SAP EDI maintenance and reconciliation related to Schedule agreements, sales orders, CUM discrepancies, and other SAP Sales and Distribution items in order to effectively communicate any and all changes to customer requirements.
  • Support production as liaison for customer label requirements, packaging supply and repairs, collaborating with IT and Packaging Engineering.
  • Track and report customer delivery and all premium freight incidents as part of weekly and monthly operations reports.
  • Support all Quality System requirements, policies, and procedures while maintaining the systems and records as required.
  • Support all NMI, Engineering Change Requests, and Product buildout activities.
  • Supports departmental activities by serving as backup for other Materials positions as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring all activities within the scope of this position conform to applicable QS9000 and Company policies, procedures, and work instructions and updates them as necessary. Maintains accurate records and documentation for history and audit purposes.

  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Scope/Dimensions:

  • Interactions with internal and external technical experts to resolve issues related to customer requirements
  • Prepare and present corrective action response to Sr. leadership and or customer representatives
  • Responsible to monitor and adjust inventory levels and maintain perpetual accuracy in SAP.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field or a combination of education and experience or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Materials Management Disciplines, preferably in Supervision
  • Strong communication, written, and verbal (English) and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated strong computer experience (MRP systems, Microsoft Office)

Qualifications Desired:

  • APICS training/certification
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification
  • Experience with SAP and other automotive customer systems such as ASNs

Physical Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the associate frequently works around moving machines/parts in an industrial environment. The associate works around industrial chemicals and other industrial hazards requiring PPE. The associate must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV record for use of company vehicles. Regular and predictable attendance at the manufacturing plant is required. 9 hour work day is standard but this role requires availability a wide variety of hours/days

Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
