WELLNESS DIRECTOR Summary:
Directs the nursing staff in the community to maintain RUI standards of care. Communicates with the medical community on residents’ behalf. Works with community management team to insure overall resident satisfaction. Reports to and is supervised by the Community Administrator. Functions: POLICY/PROCEDURES/ADMINISTRATION • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position, the department, and the personnel. • Develops and implements active wellness program for residents, working with Activity Director. • Communicates with the medical community as necessary on residents’ behalf. • Accepts physicians’ orders, transcribes and follows through to insure orders are carried out. • Reviews physicians’ orders and medication administration forms to insure they are correct and accurate monthly. • Maintains resident files in an orderly manner and documents all pertinent information regarding residents. • Orders supplies and maintains expenses within budget limits. • Prepares resident charges and reports to Director for approval and billing. • Recommends areas of improvement and establishes RUI policies according to acceptable nursing practices and all state and federal regulations. • Attends or completes a minimum of 12 hours of annual training on topics relevant to the community’s resident population. • Performs other duties as assigned. RESIDENTS • Assesses resident within 90 days prior to move-in and annually throughout residency or as the resident’s condition changes. • Develops the initial Individual Service Plan (ISP) to meet the needs of the resident within 72 hours of move-in and the comprehensive ISP within 30 days of move-in and annually or as the resident’s condition changes. • Oversees resident care provided by the nursing department. • Provides hands on care as needed. • Investigates all resident and family complaints or concerns regarding the nursing department and reports findings to the Director. Acts to insure problems are resolved. • Maintains contact with residents when they are in the hospital or nursing home on a temporary basis and keeps abreast of their condition through the communities medical staff. JD-05 11/94, Rev. 1/07, 4/12, 10/13, 3/14 STAFF • Hires, trains, schedules and evaluates all nursing staff. • Works with Activity Director to plan and implement special activities for assisted living residents and residents with special needs and insures follow through by nursing staff. • Keeps Director appraised of residents who are in the hospital. • Conducts in-services monthly with the nursing staff. Conducts inservices on proper lifting procedures, and training for bloodborne pathogens and Hepatitis B vaccine for all staff. • May supervise and conduct training sessions for other staff members as required. • Provides first aid to injured employees and maintains OSHA Log. REQUIREMENTS • Current license by the Virginia Board of Nursing to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse. • Must complete the continued competency requirements for renewal of an active license according to the Virginia Board of Nursing and maintain original documentation of completion. • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. • Must be able to exert up to 75 lbs. of force occasionally and exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. • Must be available for on-call, nights, holidays, weekends, and emergencies. • Must have two years of nursing experience, preferably in long term care management. • Must have comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles and practices. • Must have the ability to apply principles of management and human relations. • Must be neat and professional in dress during work hours. • Must be CPR certified. • Must have basic computer skills in word processing. • Must have strong customer service skills and be able to teach customer service skills to staff.
