Position Summary:
The
Buyer will be responsible for the procurement and delivery of lumber for designated branches. This role is also responsible for developing additional material sources at the desired value, maintaining desired inventory levels, and staying abreast of market trends.

Responsibilities
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Negotiates directly with suppliers at an appropriate level to achieve the lowest total delivered cost, while maintaining or improving the quality of the product.
- Sources alternative vendors that afford significant cost savings without sacrificing product quality and support.
- Sources out mills nationwide to procure material at best value and providing YOY cost comparisons.
- Locates, visits, develops and maintains relationships with suppliers emphasizing ethical, courteous, impartial, and objective behavior.
- Maintains good working relationships with associates in related departments and with vendors.
- Maintains close communication with wood-consuming mills to understand market conditions and fairly price lumber.
- Communicates with branches to ensure the best utilization practices for wood value.
- Arranges shipments to meet branches needs, performs necessary follow-up, and expedites activities as needed.
- Maintains proper inventory levels by tracking material consumption.
- Studies market and tracks purchase history to anticipate changes while reporting on industry competitive situations, alternative supply sources, material cost, price trends, etc.
- Assures supplier conformance with all applicable laws and environmental regulations.
- Makes recommendations to management as required to present proposals or update the status of current or planned projects.
- Responds to branch personnel questions, comments, and concerns in a timely fashion.
- Manages Purchase Orders, tracks merchandise, and assists in monitoring inventory levels.
- Responds to warehouse concerns regarding product as required.
- Negotiates vendor discounts and payment terms.
- Identifies and implements opportunities to increase sales and margins to maximize profit for business.
- The responsibilities associated with this job will change from time to time in accordance with the company’s needs. The individual may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from these set forth above.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, or related field preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience (lumber market).
- Manufacturing and/or distribution experience preferred.

- Excellent communication/interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to relate to and communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal guidance, and manage workload/priorities as appropriate.
- Capability of effective planning, time management and priority setting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
- MRP Training and experience and the ability to learn and navigate new systems.
- Technical knowledge of the wood/lumber industry.
- Ability to anticipate issues/opportunities while employing strong problem-solving skills with innovative and forward thinking.
- Well-developed customer service and negotiating skills.
