About the Job:
The YMCA Alexandria is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate leader to join our team as the Assistant Aquatics Director. In this role you will be creating, implementing and, supervising our aquatics activities and programs under the leadership of the Aquatics Director. Some of the exciting tasks you will do as a Lifeguard include but are not limited to:
- This position assists in all aspects of aquatic staffing to include recruiting, training, development, performance management, supervision, education and certifications, and team building
- Insures the smooth operation of the Aquatic Department in scheduling lifeguards and pool operators.
- Trains lifeguards including assisting in the quarterly in-house training sessions
- Daily, weekly, seasonal maintenance of pools and equipment.
- Works closely with the program coordinator in the coordination of schedules for lifeguards, instructors, and pool managers
- Reviews pool logs, manager’s logs and maintenance sheets; makes the initial review and preparation of the bi-weekly payroll for aquatic staff.
- Assumes department responsibilities in the absence of the Aquatic Director
Qualifications and Skills:
A Bachelor’s degree preferred; 2 – 3 years of aquatics management experience, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and demonstrate the ability to successfully create and run programs, and build relationships with members and staff. Attention to detail and leadership skills are essential in this role. Applicants must be flexible and able to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to do heavy lifting – equipment, people, and chemicals
- Must be able to lift and move around objects of 40 pounds or more
- Must be able to climb and use a variety of aquatic and cleaning equipment
- Must have mechanical aptitude and strong problem solving skills
- Must have the physical ability to meet all prerequisites for YMCA Lifeguarding
- Swim 500 yards
- Tread water for two minutes. (Legs only)
- Retrieve training victim from bottom deep end
- Active victim rescue with tube
- Passive victim rescue with tube
- Backboard victim
- Ability to see and hear participants in distress or asking for assistance
