NEW BEDFORD, MA-Child & Family Services is looking for a, full-time Young Adult Recovery Navigator to join our new program called the Young Adult Access Center! The Young Adult Recovery Navigator is a young adult with lived experience with their own substance use challenges and sustained recovery. This individual must be willing to share their lived experience with the purpose and intent to facilitate substance use recovery groups and provide individual coaching to the Young Adult Access Center youth and young adults. This individual is a member of our exciting new Young Adult Access Center team, location is currently at our North Street, New Bedford location. They will work closely with our other client-serving staff on site (Peer Mentors, Family Partner and Clinician) to help facilitate programming, resources, groups, and events to support the needs of the young adults being supported by the Young Adult Access Center. The Young Adult Recovery Navigator is supervised by and reports directly to the Access Center Program Director. Spanish speaking candidates are strongly encouraged to apply!
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED
- Must have lived experience with own substance use challenges with sustained recovery
- Possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Possess a valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle as frequent local travel and occasional state travel is required
- Computer proficiency required including utilizing social media platforms
- Ability to work in-person at the Access Center and within the local community
Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet the agency’s needs.
- Must complete the Recovery Coach Academy training within the first six months of hire
- Must complete the Six Core Elements of Young Adult Peer Mentoring Training and Transition to Independence (TIP) Facilitation Training within first year of hire
- Lead groups including but not limited to facilitating Substance Use Recovery groups
- Provide information and linkage to substance use treatment, including ACRA
- Participate in grant collaboration learning opportunities including trainings
- Maintain social marketing strategies developed through the grant
- Work as a team with the Access Center Peer Mentors, Family Partner, Program Director and Clinician to meet the co-occurring needs of Youth and Young Adults (YYA)
- Co-facilitate YYA Advisory Groups
- Attend SOC and other system meetings to infuse youth and young adult voice and perspective
- Collect data in support of quality improvement and evaluation measures, including but not limited to NOMS collection
- Must demonstrate enhanced life skills by either currently using or having used SUD treatment services in the past, and have self-knowledge evidenced by managing their recovery with a well-established recovery process and a willingness to share their lived experience
- Display strong, non-judgmental listening skills
- Establish trusting relationships with Young Adult Access Center youth
- Maintain awareness of own personal mental health needs, and utilize coping skills and practice self-care

- Knowledge of the various dimensions of diversity, including gender, race, and ethnicity
- Acknowledging that people from other cultural groups may not share the same beliefs and practices or perceive experiences in the same way
- Cultural knowledge of key populations that will be served to address disparities in service delivery
- Demonstrates positive attitudes towards cultural differences by showing respect and openness towards people whose social and cultural background is different from one's own
- Demonstrates skills for communication and interaction across cultures, including the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors, moods, and impulses to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming climate within the agency
