Position Description

The Youth Minister of First Mount Zion Baptist Church is responsible for managing the youth ministry, which includes assessing current operations; building relationships with youth and their families; developing programs that speak to the needs of the youth; and providing the spiritual guidance, training, and leadership necessary in the faith formation process. The purpose of the Youth Ministry is to provide a safe, loving, and scripturally sound environment, where youth are encouraged to be authentic about the issues impacting their lives and open to receiving spiritual direction that promotes empowerment and encourages them to lead a life centered in Christ. The Youth Minister will collaborate with the Minister of Christian Education to formulate vision and to develop and implement opportunities for Christian fellowship, spiritual growth, personal development, and service. The Youth Minister will ensure that youth activities align with the vision and mission of the First Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide spiritual direction for the youth (group and individual settings)

• Plan and implement youth programs and training

• Recruit youth servants as needed

• Develop and implement training for youth servants

• Organize and lead outreach ministry activities focused on attracting youth to the ministry

• Teach youth Bible Study sessions

• Coordinate youth ministry activities with approved community organizations and churches

• Accompany youth ministry participants to outside functions

• Participate in professional development activities

• Research youth curriculum and resources

• Conduct regularly scheduled strategy meetings with youth ministry servants to discuss planning, challenges, success, etc.

• Provide quarterly reports on youth activities, accomplishments, challenges, etc.

• Develop and manage youth ministry budget

• Adhere to legal mandates and church policies and procedures related to confidentiality and the reporting of alleged abuse and criminal matters

• Compile and manage youth directory

• Perform regularly scheduled check-ins with youth via phone, email, and other acceptable methods of communication

• Encourage youth participation in all aspects of church life, particularly Sunday School, Bible Study and Worship

• Promote greater parental involvement in the youth ministry

• Encourage and mobilize congregational support for youth activities

Basic Qualifications:

• > *Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and possess a calling to ministry

> Demonstrate a love of young people and the ability to communicate scripture and life applications

> Utilize current practices, technology, and creativity to engage youth

> Possess effective interpersonal and organizational skills

• > *Requires excellent oral and written communication skills in addition to time management, prioritizing and strategic planning.

> Work effectively as an independent self starter and as a team member

Education:

Master of Divinity preferred or an equivalent degree in ministry or theology. Candidates currently enrolled in said degree programs may also be considered.

Experience:

In previous employment settings applicants must have demonstrated the ability to: lead youth programs (preferably in churches); work with diverse groups of people; teach and train others; communicate effectively; successfully implement outreach activities; articulate Biblical messages for life application; and lead youth in spiritual growth and faith formation.

Salary Range: $54,000.00 - $58,000.00 (FT)

$26,000.00 - $30,000.00 (PT)

Work Hours: Full time 9:00 am – 4 pm (M-F), with some evening & weekend flexibility

Part time 5:00 pm – 9 pm (M-F), with some day & weekend flexibility

Qualifications:

This job requires the applicant to have a love for young people and the giftedness to communicate scripture and life application as they relate to the youth. Candidate should have demonstrated his/her ability leading youth programs; teaching, training, and equipping youth; and developing outreach ministry activities. The successful candidate will have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and possess a calling to youth ministry. The candidate should have a Master of Divinity degree or an equivalent degree in ministry or theology. Candidates currently enrolled in said degree programs may also be considered.

Basic Requirements:

• Ability to multi-task, follow-through, and make sound decisions is critical.

• Must have excellent communications skills, both oral and written.

• Must have excellent time management and organization skills, being able to set goals, prioritize activities, and yield results in a realistic timeframe.

• Must be creative as it relates to approaches to connect with youth.

• Must be computer literate and social media savvy.

• Must work effectively with diverse membership, leadership, volunteers, and parents.

• Must successfully complete a background screening process.

• Must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations, as it pertains to candidates with disabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Youth Minister of First Mount Zion Baptist Church is required to build authentic relationships with youth and their families and to cultivate youth opportunities that lead to spiritual and numerical growth. This includes assessing current operations; developing experiences that speak to the needs of the youth and that meet them where they are; and providing the spiritual guidance, training, and leadership necessary in the faith formation process. The Youth Minister is also responsible for developing outreach programs to bring other youth to Christ.

• Demonstrated ability leading youth programs, preferably in the Church

• Demonstrated outreach activities with proven/documented success

• Demonstrated ability to lead youth in spiritual growth & faith formation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $54,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
