POSITION TITLE: 1-on-1 Aide – After School Program
POSITION TYPE: Part Time; Seasonal
REPORTS TO: Senior Program Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY RATE: $17.00-22.00/hour

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The 1-on-1 Aide is responsible for assisting an elementary aged member with special needs in participation of the After School Program’s 3rd-5th grade activities in accordance with safety standards set forth by Wakeman Boys & Girls Club. The employee in this part-time 1-on-1 Aide position works from 3:45-6:00pm Monday through Friday during school year, excluding days when school is not in session. This grant funded position starts immediately until mid-June 2023.

KEY ROLES (Role-Specific Essential Duties):
1 on 1 Support of After School Program Participant

  • To provide 1 on 1 assistance with a specific Club member during After School Program activities within their larger group to promote positive friendships, learning, fun and exploration of STEM, arts, and physical activities.
  • Provide enthusiastic encouragement, redirection and breaks as necessary.
  • To develop and/or assist in devising special strategies for reinforcing skills and positive decision making behaviors, understanding of individual member, their needs, interests and ability.
  • To assist with the supervision of member during emergency drills.
  • Implement behavior management strategies of WBGC for specific member.
  • To assist with large and small group activities.
  • To alert group leaders and After School Program Supervisor to any problem or special information about supported individual member or other youth.
  • To monitor group if group leader must leave for a temporary emergency or assigned task or to deal with individual members who are in significant need.
  • To maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about members.

GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

1. Oversee the implementation of Wakeman Boys & Girls Club’s Safety Guidelines and best practice protocols.
2. Manage member’s participation within group of 10-20 youth focused on various remote learning assignments.
3. Ensure a clean, healthy, safe, positive environment is created and maintained producing a sense of physical and emotional safety.
4. Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor.

RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain, or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel members.
External: Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, member's parents and other to assist in resolving issues.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 16 years old.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Previous experience working with youth; experience working with youth with special needs preferred.
  • Ability to reinforce instruction and adjust to the varied duties of the assignment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure while maintaining a positive demeaner with youth.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Organized, reliable, hard-working, strong moral values.
  • Ability to work in an environment with youth.
