POSITION: Academic Counselor– Winter Lakes High School
Salary Range: $41,203 to $76,326 Plus an additional 5 days pay beyond 190, total of 195 work days.
Qualifications: Counseling Endorsement Required. Major responsibilities include scheduling and guiding students on making appropriate academic choices. Bilingual candidates and candidates experienced in working with bilingual students and families strongly encouraged to apply.

Job Title: Teacher Assignment: Academic/Emotional Counselor
Reports to: Principal Evaluated by: Principal
Position Overview: Assumes specific responsibilities delegated by the principal. Major responsibilities include assisting students in their adaptation to the school environment and guiding them on making appropriate social, academic and career choices.
Essential Job Functions:- Works in concert with administrative staff to recommend and provide appropriate special services for students and their parents.
- To maintain and work with the building principal on academic advising and enrollment system for students enrolled in high school and dual enrollment courses.
- To evaluate and revise the building guidance and counseling program;
- Assists teachers in their efforts to communicate with students by providing liaison services.
- Makes home visits as necessary and initiates parent, teacher, and student conferences.
- Assists with the coordination and development of written school plans for guidance and counseling.
- Coordinates the development and updating of written school plans for guidance and counseling.
- Initiates counseling and guidance contacts with students. Provides counseling and guidance services at students’ request.
- Assist students to gain self-understanding through exploration of their feelings, needs and values.
- Guiding each student to choose courses consistent with his/her interests, abilities and career plans;
- Helping students develop post-secondary educational plans in accordance with their interests, abilities and career plans;
- Meeting with students and, if appropriate, formulating a plan of action for success involving the student and the parent;
- Monitoring and intervening with subgroups as directed by the principal (e.g. freshmen on-track);
- Working with students who have discipline, attendance and academic problems and are referred by teachers, parents or administrators;
- Assisting the principal in the preparation of diploma lists and identification of graduates in preparation Graduation;
- Making necessary schedule changes for individual students that are both appropriate for their abilities and aligned with their educational and career plans;
- To consult with and serve as a resource for students, staff and parents regarding developmental needs of students, which may include: Identification and referral of students for Student Study Meetings, 504 plans and active participation in those meetings;
- Under the direction of the administration, planning and/or promoting programs which enhance the academic, social or emotional growth of students, e.g., Orientations, Curriculum Fair, Career Fair, etc., opportunities for student enrichment and/or remediation, scholarship opportunities and parent informational programs;
- Work with teachers to better help them understand students with physical or emotional challenges;
- To refer students and parents/guardians to appropriate school and community resources;
- Other duties as assigned by the administration
Other Job Functions:- Ensuring that students are aware of requirements for graduation and college admission, as well as any NCAA requirements that may be necessary for athletic participation;
- Under the direction of the administration, managing 504 plans for some students.
- Tracking Essential Skills for graduation purposes;
- Planning college visitations for both junior high and high school students;
- Managing credit recovery programs for students;
- Managing dual credit and expanded options programs;
- Coordination and disseminating scholarship information to students and coordinating the school scholarship awards night;
- Developing and oversight of the student work experience program;
- Connecting students with college and military recruiters and local work force opportunities;
- Assisting students with the completion of college admissions applications
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Methods of guidance and counseling- Laws, rules, policies, and trends regarding guidance and counseling.

Ability to:

Experience:- Demonstrated competency.
- Prior teaching or counseling experience.
License:
Current Oregon license with appropriate endorsement in area of assignment- Current ODL
