The School of Data Science (SDS) seeks an Admission Counselor to join the SDS Admissions Team in Charlottesville, VA. We are a dynamic, growing school that currently offers in-person and online master’s degrees in data science, a PhD program, a thriving undergraduate minor, and a potential undergraduate major. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, majors and institutions, and varying levels of work experience. As a member of the SDS Admissions Team, you will get the opportunity to see a new school being built from the ground up.

The Admissions Counselor will lead the recruitment of prospective students throughout the admission cycle. They will serve as the first point of contact for prospective students, conduct information sessions, and represent SDS at both on-Grounds and off-Grounds recruitment events. What you will do:

  • Help design and participate in recruitment programming for all programs, with a focus on supporting the new Bachelor of Science in Data Science recruitment and yield efforts.

  • Connect with prospective students for the MSDS programs, with a focus on nurturing interest in the MSDS Online program.

  • Serve on the Admissions Committee for all SDS programs, which includes the review and holistic evaluation of applications for admission.

  • Provide virtual and in-person information sessions, travel to college fairs, and promote SDS programs.

  • Advise prospective students about admission requirements and the application process.

  • Create and execute events focused on recruiting a diverse community of students.

  • Conduct outreach on Grounds, including strategizing, coordinating, and executing recruitment for the minor and master’s programs with undergraduate constituents.

  • Create and maintain an extensive calendar of events and recruitment activities for multiple degree programs.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience in a student services or related field OR 8 years of related experience. Experienced gained while a student may be considered.

  • Excellent written, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Collaborative working style with a high level of autonomy.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet time sensitive deadlines.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, external-facing environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with people across cultures, and knowledge of the various dimensions of diversity, such as gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and experience.

  • High proficiency with Office 365.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field

  • Experience with Slate Technolutions or similar CRM

This position is based on grounds in Charlottesville, VA, this role is eligible for the flex work policy of 3 days in person and 2 days remote per week.

Anticipated hiring range: $50,000 – $55,000
