Pay Rate: $53,000 /yr
Schedule: Between 7a-6p, M-F; South Campus
Job Summary:
The Director, Basic Needs Center (BNC Director) works with the Senior Director, Enrollment Management to improve the retention and progression of students at WSU Tech. The BNC Director will coordinate development of the Basic Needs Centers and services to promote student success through access to basic needs resources. This individual should demonstrate a commitment to educational improvement through ongoing attention to retention, persistence, and completion rates in degree and certificate programs at WSU Tech.
This position is grant funded.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads implementation of objectives and strategies associated with the Basic Needs Center (BNC).
- Assists in the continued development and coordination of the Basic Needs center case management and coaching systems.
- In coordination with the Grant Manager, trains, supervises and evaluates Basic Needs Center (BNC) Student Success Coaches and Peer Navigators.
- Provides case management, tutoring, advising and enrollment management assistance to all Basic Needs Center students to improve their academic performance through access to basic needs and other program related resources.
- Supervises, schedules, and continuously trains and develops BNC staff to ensure maximum performance. Positions supervised typically include Student Success, Peer Navigators and student workers.
- Maintains a library of community and college resources available to WSU Tech students in need.
- At all times, engages in and promotes teamwork, courtesy, legal compliance, policy compliance, and safety in the WSU Tech workplace.
- Engages in sufficient self-development and continuing education to maintain necessary skills, abilities, and knowledge for high levels of personal achievement in the position.
- Establishes and promotes the use of available software (Banner ERP/Recruiter and Degree works) in the advising and coaching students.
- Continually works to align BNC resources, support, services and space with needs of Student Services through coordination and cooperation with appropriate academic and student services deans, directors, faculty, staff and the project manager.
- Assists the project manager and other appropriate personnel to collect and analyze data as needed for reporting and continuous improvement of services and support to health sciences.
- Assists in the development and distribution of community resources and other helpful resources to assist students with program enrollment, retention and completion.
- Manages and assists in the development of defined goals for student retention, persistence, and completion that are ambitious but attainable and appropriate to the mission, student populations, and educational offerings.
- Participates and serves on assigned committees to champion student retention, persistence and completion initiatives.
Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills Needed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Student Development, Social Services, Health related fields or another related discipline required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Two or more years of professional experience developing/delivering student/client success programs and services required.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience with scholarship and/or grant administration with respect to scholarship management.
- Experience working with “high-risk,” non-traditional, and low-income students/clients.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- User-level knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel are required. Knowledge of SharePoint is preferred.
- Professional-level communication skills, including excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate effectively with others in arriving at solutions to complex problems.
- Ability to prioritize with strong organization skills.
- Flexibility to work at different campuses based on students’ needs.
