We are currently looking for a full-time Assistant Bursar. Under the direction of the Bursar, the Assistant Bursar assists in the day-to-day operations of the Bursar Department, as well as making sure University policies and procedures are followed. The position also requires close coordination with Financial Planning and Academic Services and works with active and inactive students.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Provides outstanding customer service, to include answering phones and assisting callers as well as assisting students that come to the office.
- Sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail and faxes.
- Maintains and orders office supplies.
- Prepares mail daily.
- Assists with processing weekly collection letters.
- Ensures proper receipting of payments.
- Assists in third party billing.
- Tracks payments regarding certain student groups.
- Posts payments, including those received physically and online.
- Posts parking fines to ledger.
- Banking duties of the department, including working up deposits and post office runs.
- Makes collection calls to students who are past due.
- Prepares and submits statements/invoices for payment from agencies.
- Participates in student registration activities to promote student awareness of the Bursar Department.
- Maintains a thorough working knowledge of all functionality of the student information system and all other related student administrative systems.
- Communicates financial information in a professional and courteous manner to help students and parents understand their financial obligation to Sullivan University both verbally and in writing.
- Assists and provides back up support for other members of the department as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements of the position include:
- Minimum of a Bachelors degree in related field.
- Two years related work experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
- Proficient computer skills with specific emphasis on Microsoft office programs, Campus Nexus, Image Now and Great Plains.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently while meeting required deadlines.
- Ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail while working for extended periods of time.
- Responsible, driven, independent, open-minded, and flexible.
- Understands and accepts the need for discretion and confidentiality.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Must possess excellent communication (oral and written), organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face and via the telephone.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends; schedule for this position generally includes three Saturdays per quarter from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
