    • Participation in a 24/7 on call schedule required
  • Pay: $70,000-75,000

Job Summary:

Reporting to the senior program director, the assistant director of transitional services (ADT) will be a crucial member of Urban Family Centers leadership team. The ADT will manage members of the housing and employment teams to ensure the Urban Family Center meets the highest possible standards of health and safety and provides all needed quality services to residents, while meeting contractual and regulatory requirements. The ADT is responsible for encouraging a supportive environment and assisting the housing and employment team in managing high emotion situations while meeting all program requirements.

Program Overview:

Founded in 1972, the Urban Family Center (UFC) was the country’s first apartment-style temporary shelter with on-site social services for homeless families with children. Funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services and located in a six-story walk-up building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the Center houses eighty-two homeless families in separate apartments, and provides them access to a comprehensive array of social services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with diverse consumers in human services organizations required
  • Strong engagement, interpersonal, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, internet applications, and database navigation (CARES/AWARDS)
  • Experience with grant funded programs and expectations for meeting measurement targets and reporting outcomes
  • Experience working with families experiencing domestic violence and homelessness required
  • Must have at least 3 years with people and program management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of low income housing programs in NYC

Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, and manage a team of housing specialists and employment coordinators
  • Ensure housing and employment departments meets all criteria stipulated by funding source(s) and assist with outcomes reporting; provide reports and statistical data to city and state agencies, and other various funding sources
  • Manage the everyday success of the housing and employment departments; create systems and monitor program priorities, objectives, goals, participation, and outcomes
  • Housing Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and monitor, families’ transition to permanent housing under housing stability plus, NYC housing authority, and HUB programs, to meet guidelines mandated by DHS
  • Facilitate and monitor housing readiness workshops
  • Employment Responsibilities:
    • Collaborate closely with Henry Street’s Workforce Development Center and other external employment agencies to build partnerships and referral opportunities
    • Develop curriculum and implement employment job readiness workshops that provide the following: overview of interview skills, mock interviews, completion of job applications, job search techniques, interview preparation, debriefing of actual job interview
    • Communicate/collaborate with case managers and other members of employment team on any client issues/concerns related to employment
  • Aftercare Responsibilities:
  • Act as liaison to our aftercare department, working closely with Henry Street’s aftercare director and case manager to ensure all families referred to aftercare remain connected to the UFC program
