Job Summary: The Assistant Manager of Nantahala Rafting Operations role is rooted in training, quality control, and leadership. The Assistant Manager will play a large part in the management, training, and development of NOC river guides. They will be expected to continually educate and evaluate staff about guest service, river skills, operations, and organizational norms They must set the standard for NOC professionalism, show commitment to establishing and maintaining expectations of NOC river staff, and mentor staff and colleagues through clear and respectful communication.
Responsibilities:
Staffing
- Work closely with NOC recruiter to interview/hire new guides and Raft Center staff.
- Ensure timely and complete employee on-boarding/off-boarding*
- Work with HR to manage staffing plans,orientation schedule, staff certification records, contact info, schedule exit interviews, offboarding, etc.
- Maintain accurate and updated Adventure Center staff/taxi contact list
Payroll
- Update payroll hours daily and process every Monday by noon with accurate coding*
- Maintain open communication with HR and Accounting to ensure all employees are properly recording time
- Resolve any payroll problems the staff is experiencing in a timely manner
Scheduling
- Complete Daily Schedules three days in advance for entirety of season*
- Update Weekly Forecast ensuring accuracy at all times*
- Maintain accurate and updated Adventure Center staff/taxi schedule
Training
- Assist with guide instructional training and organizing Continuing Education training
- Audit a river trip once a week during peak season
Operations
Assist Operations Manager with day to day supervision of staff/ guests and quality assurance
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
- Previous whitewater trip leader experience
- Necessary knowledge and ability to instruct whitewater safety, skills, and guiding technique to beginners.
PREFERRED:
- Wilderness First Responder or higher certification from approved institution
- Swiftwater Rescue Training certification from approved institution
- Basic proficiency in Google Drive, Microsoft Office, and ability to learn POS systems and web-based booking software.
Applicants must be:
- Available to begin season by mid-February for 9 month commitment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs. repeatedly.
- Mut be able to stand and walk for majority of workday.
- Must be prepared and able to remain flexible with daily schedules.
- Must be able to work in variable and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, busy, and dynamic environment.
