Assistant Program Director, (Inglewood, Research & Evaluation Division)

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Program Director of Research and Evaluation, the Assistant Director will be responsible for supporting the Program Director in managing, directing and leading program evaluation processes for our Suicide Prevention Center and suicide prevention efforts statewide. Including the coordination of research collaborations and projects with outside entities. The Assistant Director will also directly supervise a team of Research Analysts and Specialists.


Primary Duties

Program Leadership

  • Supports the Program Director in overseeing program evaluation processes including clinical outcome and program data collection, entry, analysis and reporting.
  • Provides leadership to program staff ensuring that outcome and program data are tracked, processed, and reported to meet contractual obligations funding entities.
  • Attends, participates, leads and/or facilitates routinely scheduled meetings as requested or required for the program, division, or Agency.
  • Interfaces with related community agencies, attends meetings as scheduled and/ or as needed.

Management Duties

  • Provides administrative oversight of the Research Analysts and Research Specialists (RS), which includes providing feedback, work direction, tracking attendance and evaluating performance as well as participating in the hiring of Analysts and Specialists.
  • Uses human resource best practices to engage in flexible and supportive feedback and management styles that foster open communication.
  • Coaches supervisees in the development of data collection processes and all assigned duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
  • Completes documentation related to supervisees, such as timekeeping records and performance evaluations, in a timely manner.
  • Effectively holds staff accountable for meeting job requirements through frequent and regular feedback during administrative supervision sessions held on at least a monthly basis.
  • Consults with Program and Division Director to manage various program evaluation and research activities including evaluation designs, goals and objectives and identifying and/or developing instruments (e.g. surveys, interview protocols, criterion-referenced tests, etc.).
  • Independently design, direct, conduct, and draw conclusions from complex research related to the evaluation of the agency’s clinical and programmatic outcomes.
  • Provides oversight of Suicide Prevention Center evaluations, including 988 and statewide and local initiatives.
  • Consults with Program and Division Director to interpret and disseminate program evaluation results to agency staff and leadership.
  • Provides assistance and consultation in creating Division operational workflows.
  • Initiates and maintains effective working relationships with employees and management.
  • Identifies staff training needs and ensures development and implementation of programs that address needs; participates in delivering training sessions to meet the needs of staff related to evaluation activities.

Position Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as a direct supervisor preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program evaluation in community mental health or similar settings
  • Demonstrated evaluation project management skills including planning, developing timelines and implementation of projects.
  • Advanced statistical analysis skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare comprehensive reports in various formats.
  • Working knowledge of database systems, statistical and data visualization software.
  • The ability present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • A commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch philosophies.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • Current California driver’s license, car insurance, and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.

These requirements are typically met by a combination of experience and education involving a minimum of a master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health or a related field and experience conducting program evaluation for community mental health.
