In a direct reporting relationship to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Assistant is the senior office support position in the division and provides administrative and executive-level support to the Provost and his staff. Duties include: frequent interaction with senior university officers and constituencies outside of the university; research, problem-solving and planning on behalf of the Provost, requiring knowledge of the university and its missions and knowledge of key external constituencies; screening calls, mail and visitors and independently managing those tasks that do not require the attention of the Provost; managing several office budgets; scheduling and coordinating the Provost’s time and commitments, composing correspondence on behalf of the Provost. Position acts in an instructive and advisory capacity to persons in key administrative roles within the division, including deans, department heads and staff. Position also serves as the primary liaison between the Provost and other division offices.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
This position must possess considerable knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment; general knowledge of principles and practices of public administration and business administration; some knowledge of personnel policies and practices and accounting principles and practices; the ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures; the ability to plan, assign and review the work of others; the ability to make decisions within a policy environment; the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, officials, and the public; the ability to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely in oral or written form.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications
A masters degree in public affairs, education, or an applicable area is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range Salary commensurate with experience.
