Auto & Diesel Mechanic I/II Job at Kenai Peninsula Borough
Definition
Under the general direction and supervision of the director of maintenance or his designee, the auto & diesel mechanic I/II is responsible for the repair and maintenance of borough vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications
Range N: High school diploma or GED; at least three/four years’ experience within the past five/six years in automobile, diesel and mechanical equipment repair; knowledge of testing equipment. Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted Alaska driver's license. Maintain effective working relationships with others.
Range O: Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of Borough owned equipment and internal processes. Obtain and possess an Alaska Commercial Class A driver’s license within one year of attaining level II.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for diagnosis, maintenance and repair of all vehicle equipment including their engines, transmissions, electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic and other mechanical systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs electronic computer command control systems, electronic fuel injection systems, microprocessor controllers and related roads logic controls.
- Maintains operational and maintenance logs for all vehicular and industrial equipment.
- Performs work on a preventive maintenance program.
- Assists in troubleshooting, repairs, and replaces as needed gasoline, diesel, natural gas, electrical generators, and emergency equipment with A.C. and D.C. electrical output.
- Coordinates purchasing through lead automotive and diesel mechanic and/or appropriate personnel.
- Must routinely transport heavy loads.
- Cleans up after each project and leaves area, job site, and vehicle clean and safe.
Auto & Diesel Mech. II: Range O
1. Diagnoses and repairs electronic computer command control systems, electronic fuel injection systems, microprocessor controllers and related solid state logic controls.
2. Troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces as needed gasoline, diesel, natural gas, electrical generators.
Other Functions:
- May weld on vehicles and equipment and assist in overhauling and repairing air compressors.
- Performs general maintenance duties as required.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Auto & Diesel Mech. II
- May install, repair and maintain borough-wide emergency warning systems sometimes working at heights up to 50 feet.
- May be required to overhaul and repair air compressors.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate orally. Vision abilities required. Sitting is required occasionally. The employee must frequently transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.
