Behavioral Health Program Assistant (4-6 months) Job at Salud Para La Gente
Description: Salud Para La Gente (SALUD) provides high quality, comprehensive and cost-effective healthcare to underserved low-income communities in the Monterey Bay area, including Santa Cruz County and North Monterey County. We began in Watsonville 1978 as a storefront “free clinic,” and with the ever-growing need for health services, in 1992 became a federally qualified community health center (FQHC). Today we are a primary health care network with 11 clinic sites, over 400 employees and continue to provide high quality services to patients of all ages.
We are seeking a Behavioral Health Program Assistant to support the Behavioral Health Director with a variety of projects and responsibilities. The Behavioral Health Program Assistant is also responsible for coordinating multiple Behavioral Health programs and providing patient care coordination services.
Major Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Acts as a liaison between the Behavioral Health Director and SALUD staff, including clinic operations
- Works with medical provider and support staff schedulers to adjust templates and schedules as needed in collaboration with the Behavioral Health Director.
- Works with the Quality and Compliance department as needed on Behavioral Health measures.
- Monitors department scheduling issues and makes recommendations to improve patient and provider experience. Attends Behavioral Health scheduling meetings.
- Coordinates and attends various meetings, including calendaring, agenda preparation, minute taking, sign-in sheets, ordering food, materials preparation, coordinating guest speakers and any additional tasks as requested.
- Coordinates Behavioral Health provider trainings, including onboarding.
- Coordinates meetings that require Salud Behavioral Health attendance.
- Coordinates communication between the billing department and the Behavioral Health team.
- Prepares a variety of reports, agendas, memos, correspondence, and other documents as requested.
- Coordinates and completes the Behavioral Health team’s time cards and additional work time reports.
- Works with BH Director to support the work of the Quality Improvement Committee as needed.
- Prepares materials that are needed for the team and operations including onboarding documents and educational handouts
- Provides assistance to the Behavioral Health Care Coordinator(s) and is able to cover their job duties as needed.
- Provides direct patient care coordination which may include:
- communicating with referral sources and other organizations to assist patients in accessing services in and out of Salud’s clinics
- contacting patients to discuss their BH care, scheduling/re-scheduling patients
- assisting with various aspects of psychiatry services coordination
- maintaining lists and dashboards of patients and using them to ensure timely follow-up and that appropriate care is received
- serves as liaison between Watsonville Community Hospital Case Management Department and Salud’s BH Department
- serves as liaison between Beacon Health Options and the BH department
- point of contact for various BH programs and services both internally and externally
- works with other departments’ care coordinators as needed to help BH patients get the care they need.
- works with records and referrals to obtain records as needed and help patients with this department
- Attends community meetings that pertain to patient care and coordination as directed by the Director of Behavioral Health.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- At least 2 years of administrative support experience
- Moderate to high level computer skills, including Google and Microsoft Applications
- High level of verbal and written communication skills
- Must be highly detail oriented and organized
- Ability to exercise a high level of discretion, independent judgment and problem solving
- Ability to take complete ownership of projects, from beginning through completion
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Valid CA Driver’s License and current vehicle insurance; must be able to travel between sites
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred (equivalent experience considered)
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Experience in community health care and/or non-profit experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Extensive computer/keyboarding ability
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary: $25.63 - $29.66/hr
