Primary Function:
Set up and operate equipment to reshape cast parts of multiple dimensions that require complex straightening techniques, as assigned by Supervisor.

Tools and Equipment:
All equipment used by Bench Straightener B, including Vernier calipers, micrometers, indicators, gages, fixtures, air tools, deburring tools, etc.

Materials:
Cast metal parts (product), fixtures, levers, hammers, presses, grinders, hand tools.

None

Working Procedure:
The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor:

  • Receive work from presses or other areas. Read finishing instructions contained in finishing folder; relate dimensions on instruction sheet with corresponding dimensions on blueprint to ensure complete understanding of work to be done.
  • Visually inspect parts for obvious surface defects; set questionable parts aside and notify supervisor.
  • Hammer insert into slot (if part has slot) in order to insure that established dimensions are maintained while straightening work is being performed.
  • Straighten (reshape) parts using vise, wrench, hammer or other tools to obtain parallelism, right angles, flatness, specified curvatures, or other dimensions.
  • Measure various part dimensions using micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, true position and other measuring instruments.
  • May remove excess metal using hand file where necessary to meet final dimensions
  • Place parts in tote pans, verifying batch numbers, counts, and serial numbers on castings to match production paperwork
  • Report equipment malfunctions to group leader or supervisor.
  • Maintain equipment and work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Must follow all safety requirements of job as outlined on job safety card.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend all paperwork associated with the job.
  • Complete all paperwork associated with the job. Correctly maintain all forms and instruction sheets.
  • Inform your supervisor about problems that occur.
  • Ensure that all activities and operations are performed in compliance with the Company’s Code of Conduct.
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste by collecting and transferring the waste into proper containers at satellite storage areas or storage areas and assuring that the containers are properly inspected, labeled, and closed as required. Must follow correct instruction for handling hazardous waste and report any deviations to supervisor immediately. Must attend yearly instruction in hazardous waste handling and review of current procedures if job duties could affect non-compliance.
Special Skills and/or Experience:
Must be able to use all measuring instruments, such as Vernier calipers, micrometers and various gages. Vision requirement are 20/25 near vision correctable.
Requires sufficient strength and physical dexterity to frequently lift up to 35 lbs.

Minimum Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED.
