The builds director works with leads to oversee a team of harmony riggers tasked with rigging every character and prop required as required in the storyboards. They work closely with art direction and the animation director to make sure the rigs maintain the vision of the designs, and the technical goals of the animators. Works closely with Technical Directors to ensure best practices are in place. This position reports to the producers and art direction.

Requirements:

  • Must have 1-2 years of management experience.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of Toonboom Harmony, Adobe Photoshop, Google Suite products and Ftrack.
  • Knowledge of building Master Controllers is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of how designs are reconstruct as character rigs.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully to the Builds team members as well as staff and directors in other departments.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the Harmony animation pipeline.
  • Must be able to switch between tasks at a moments notice.
  • Must be dedicated to keeping the team motivated by supporting them and fostering a positive environment.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and an ability to keep up with the status of the department at all times.
  • Receives and relays direction with a collaborative approach, seeking clarity or presenting options when necessary, and forming concrete solutions for the team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with Technical Directors and Animation Director to research and develop methods and workflows to achieve technical challenges and high skill level tasks.
  • Complete and maintain a breakdown of all assets needing rigging.
  • Communicate with Art director and Animation Director to understand the full functionality and detail required of each rig.
  • Address rig based techniques and requests of animation team as much as possible.
  • Work with Lead Riggers to train and mentor Builds team members on techniques developed in the research and development phase as well as the standards and practices of the department.
  • Work with Lead Riggers to assign rigs to the build team.
  • Take on more complex rigs and demonstrate techniques to the team.
  • Review elements from the rigging artists and provide notes.
  • Polish and finesse rigs during the final notes phase.
  • Check in with Producers and Technical Directors to make sure overseas animation teams are able to utilize rigs.
  • Find and recruit new talent to fulfill open positions within the Builds team.
  • Check and approve staff hours prior to payroll.
  • Approve staff time off requests and communicate to Producers to maintain an organized staff calendar.
  • Maintain consistent notes on staff performance and communicate with staff regarding performance on a regular basis.
  • Attend all trainings provided to Management and be accountable for the information provided within those trainings.
  • Occasionally meeting outside studio hours with overseas studios.
  • Must reside in GA or be willing to relocate.
  • Must be able to provide authorization to work in the US.
  • Must be able to provide proof of COVID vaccination and boosters.
