Job Description:


Denver Museum of Nature & Science serves close to one thousand, K-5 students annually in our science camps. When at the museum, campers engage their brains and bodies in hands-on, informal science, in a safe, fun and welcoming environment. We are seeking a Camp Administrator, who will lead the planning, development, and execution of all camps here at the museum. This position will also ensure that we are complying with our childcare license requirements at all times and following best practices for school aged childcare centers.

The camp administrator will be a champion for our camps and our students, will work collaboratively across teams and will supervise seasonal summer camp staff. Work areas include:

  • Camp Licensing Administration, Implementation and Documentation
  • Program Planning and Leadership
  • Program Operations and Logistics
  • Supervision of seasonal camp staff

Work Schedule: This is a full-time hourly position working 40 hrs/week. Work is performed onsite with some flexibility for remote work when possible.


Supervises: Seasonal Camp Educator Performers (may vary), and Camp Aides (3-4)


Essential duties:


  • In partnership, with Museum Leadership, ensures that camp policies and procedures are updated as needed, communicated and implemented.
  • Ensures all staff screening, paperwork and training required for camp licensing is completed each year, including required background checks: Colorado TRAILS, fingerprinting: FBI, CBI, and other in and out of state checks.
  • Aligns camps to childcare best practices: Uses positive behavior reinforcement and developmentally appropriate guidance techniques to encourage appropriate behavior
  • Plans programs and experiences that are audience centered, accurate and age-appropriate, aligned with Museum mission, community themes and values, and DEIA practice.
  • Prepares for program delivery by ensuring documentation and necessary communication is completed, services are requested, logistics are confirmed, set-up/break-down is complete, supplies are stocked and prepared, and props and education materials are in good repair.

Minimum qualifications/Requirements:


  • Bachelors’ degree in science, education, recreation, outdoor education, or a subject in the human service field required. Equivalent work experience can be substituted per state guidelines.
  • 3 years’ experience in informal education program delivery for school-age children required.
  • Ability to meet Camp Director requirements of Colorado’s Department of Human Services within 30 days of hire required.
  • 1 years’ experience supervising staff required.
  • Twenty-one (21) years of age due to licensure requirements required.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings for programs and events required.
