ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides supervision and instruction to staff in administrative, technical and professional matters.
  • Works under the administrative supervision of the Director of Medical Services. Clinical work is performed with considerable professional independence.
  • Provides daily leadership reflecting the adopted mission and core values of the organization.
  • Assumes responsibility for interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Establishes or approves overall work schedule and determines individual or work group assignments.
  • Develops and implements plans/programsfor improvement expansion and/or contraction of patient care services to meet changing patient care needs or staffing levels.
  • Develops care program for Tséhootsooí Medical Center and Nahata’Dziil Health Center.
  • Conducts full scope optometric evaluations, diagnoses and prescribes appropriate optometric treatments.
  • Conducts specialty optometry procedures such as refraction, pediatric exams, geriatric exams, ocular surface disease, glaucoma management, low vision evaluation and therapy, and in-office removal of foreign bodies, commensurate with documented training and experience.
  • Provides eye pathology consultation services; and provides eye pathology treatment consistent with experience and granted privileges.
  • Conducts school, pre-school, diabetic, hypertensive, and/or other appropriate specialty screenings.
  • Attending continuing education courses to keep informed of new technology and advances in the optical industry.
  • Acts as Tséhootsooí Medical Center Eye Safety Consultant.
  • Acts as principal liaison between optometry staff, clinic coordinator and FDIHB Medical Staff, regarding medical matters and policies. Attends mandatory Navajo Area Optometric meetings continually.
  • Conducts eye related statistical analysis and research.
  • Conducts educational programs for patients, staff, and others.
  • Adhere to FDIHB Medical Staff Bylaws, Personnel Policies and Procedures, confidentiality, and quality to meet professional standards of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Four (4) years of direct work experience in a clinical setting.

Education:

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) Degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Council of Optometric Education (ACOE).

License/ Certifications:

  • Active unrestricted State Licensure from any U.S. State or Territory.
  • DPA and TPA certified.
