National Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time, and exempt position that will support community engagement, recreation improvements, and watershed restoration on the Chugach National Forest in Alaska.

Position* Function: The Chugach Stewardship Coordinator reports to the Director, Pacific Northwest and Alaska Program. The Coordinator will conduct community engagement, fundraising and project management for recreation improvement and watershed restoration activities on the Chugach National Forest. This work requires close coordination with the U.S. Forest Service, community organizations and implementation partners to accomplish identified goals and activities across the Chugach National Forest.

Position* Duties and Responsibilities: The Chugach Stewardship Coordinator is responsible for:
- Community Engagement
- Work with the U.S. Forest Service, community partners, local government, Alaska Native and other entities to help identify and develop priority recreation and restoration projects on the Chugach National Forest.
- Conduct ongoing communication with partners on the status of project planning, implementation, and project successes.
- Build close and mutually beneficial relationships among organizations, agencies, and other entities in Alaska to advance stewardship projects on the Chugach National Forest.
- Service as a point of contact for NFF conservation activities on the Chugach National Forest.

Fundraising
- Support the expansion of the base of private and public-sector supporters and partners by actively pursuing funding opportunities, creating new development opportunities, and writing grants.
- Prepare grant and funding reports and conduct donor stewardship activities.

Project Management
- Work with U.S. Forest Service and partners to identify and develop scopes of work and project implementation plans for priority restoration and recreation projects.
- Work with NFF staff, the U.S. Forest Service, contractors, and nonprofit partners to develop grants and contracts to support the implementation of on-the-ground project activities.
- Oversee contractors implementing projects to ensure successful project completion in a timely and financially responsible manner.
- Manage project and program budgets for NFF-related activities on the Chugach National Forest.
- Assist as necessary with the NFF program of work in Alaska, which may include the management of diverse, short-term projects.

Education* and Qualifications: NFF expects the Chugach Stewardship Coordinator to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree in natural resources conservation, forestry, environmental science, or related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience with proven results in fisheries, forestry, recreation or conservation project management, community outreach, and partnership development.
- Commitment to the mission of the NFF and familiarity with the U.S. Forest Service purpose and National Forest lands management.
- A strong understanding of Alaska natural resources issues.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills.
- Strong writing skills and public speaking experience.
Abilities and Skills: NFF expects the Chugach Stewardship Coordinator to possess the following proven abilities and skills:
- Ability to work independently, performing fieldwork, attending meetings, and managing projects with minimal oversight.
- Ability to represent the NFF with diverse constituents in a clear and professional manner through excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaboratively manage programs and evaluate their outcomes against quantifiable measures of success.
- Ability to effectively manage a variety of projects and tasks to successful completion.
- Ability to work well and be flexible in a team-oriented environment.
- Must have valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record and pass a background check for access to secured federal facilities and systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently within the Chugach National Forest and beyond.
- Excellent analytical skills with a strong attention to detail.
Location: The position is located in Anchorage or surrounding communities in Southcentral Alaska.
Compensation: The NFF offers competitive compensation commensurate with candidate skills, experience, and location. Total rewards at NFF, beyond salary, include generous paid time off, employer contributions to health savings accounts, matching funds for retirement, and more. NFF has recently (August 2022) implemented a new compensation program with grade levels as part of our commitment to transparency. The salary range for this position will be in the $70,000 to $94,500 range. Please note that the indicated salary range describes the full range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.
