  • Adjust a caseload of assigned files in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain an active diary for caseload files, with a current plan of action.
  • Adhere to assigned authority limits for reserving and payments.
  • Exercise independent decision-making skills with minimal to moderate supervision and direction on claims assigned, using knowledge of local codes, laws, standards and case-law.
  • Verify coverage, investigate the loss by gathering all pertinent information, evaluate the claim, set reserves, and negotiate settlements where coverage and/or liability exists.
  • Evaluate loss, assess reserve and settlements value where applicable and settle cases with claimants, insureds and attorneys autonomously.
  • Assure all litigation cases are handled effectively and cost efficiently until legal settlement has been reached or judgment has been awarded, as assigned by Branch Management.
  • Identify and thoroughly investigate all possible recovery and subrogation opportunities revealed in the claims handled.
  • File all state and/or federal forms, filings and reports in accordance with the statutory Guidelines.
  • Scope property losses through the use of estimates or use of Independent Adjusters/Engineer as appropriate. (Property Representatives only).
  • Understand coverage issues with good knowledge of exclusions and endorsements.
  • Recognize settlement or exposure value and be able to use tools to assist in settling cases, such as structured settlements, arbitration, mediation, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • One (1) to Five (5) or more years adjusting experience is required.
  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • Prior property claims experience required.
  • Current and valid State adjusting license when and where applicable.
  • Ability to prioritize daily workflow of a moderate technical complexity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail orientated, with excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative is essential.
  • Experience negotiating settlements both over the phone and in person with attorneys, mediators, judges or other carrier personnel.
  • Thorough knowledge of claim procedures, policies, terminology, etc.
  • Working knowledge of civil procedure, petitions, complaints, Department of Insurance operations audits.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Strong preference for continued insurance education such as CPCU, CIC, CIA, etc.
  • Ability to travel as necessary
